Crystal Tower and the associated raids is completely optional content. So far SE has made sure that events in optional content don't have any real impact on the main story line, and I don't see them changing that policy any time soon.

They've just introduced the new race, and the new locations, via our most recent 24-man raid.

Not to mention the Crystal tower is already 'essential viewing' in the lead up to the SB 8-man raids, because Nero.

You say that but, in ARR the first three HM primal where at first optional content that later where changed to a clear condition by time keeper of the lake was added.
Crystal Tower came from the same production time as those.
