Gender locked race?

I find it very interesting that some of the more hostile posters have not actually been playing the game for very long judging by their join date...

Hurhur, my account is old as heck, like beta tester 1.0 old. I just didn't join the forums until recently, I'm sure it was to complain about something or harp about Viera - so both things.
Though totally a correlation, since I'm like 70% sure I joined the forums to rage about my lack of male bunny. Out of everything they've done, this was the thing that made me finally trudge into the forums.

Not related entirely; but why the heck isn't the join date the actual date of when you made your account?

well, a lot of people play the game without ever touching the forums. I don't know if you consider me one of the hostile posters (I hope not, I'm opinionated but my intent was never to be hostile to anyone), but I've been playing off and on since ARR. The only reason I joined up here was because I knew such a big discussion was going on about the new race. XD

Oh, that clears that up then...I always figured the join date was equal to when an account was first created.

Still, it is bizarre how strongly some people feel about all this. I guess the best we can do is report the more aggressive posts.

aww, that's a relief! Did you happen to see my post to you from earlier today? I wasn't sure because it got buried under all the new viera drama. I just wanted to clear stuff up, I felt bad about it.

But I don't like people getting hostile with each other over it either. I know I get wrapped up in it too, but if I'm frustrated it is just over the situation, not at anyone in particular. It isn't worth being nasty to people over. I think the reason people are so invested in it is because Viera is a race that had fans before FF XIV was even a thing. If Viera was a brand new race unique to XIV I don't think people would care so much. Male viera have been a curiosity to people since XII came out, so the idea that they're going to get skipped in XIV rubs a lot of people the wrong way.

Yeah, report, block and move on. Hopefully they'll get taken care of by mods. I think issues like this are just posting magnets lol. Everyone wants to voice their opinions so that what they desire is heard.

I saw it! No worries, though. I figured there wasn't any bad blood involved. It takes a lot to ruffle my feathers, anyway. I'm very much the stereotype of a stoic Brit, I suppose...

I'm always willing to talk things out and seek some sort of compromise/clarification even if things get heated though.

Aye, like if I'm being an ass just tell me and I'll dial it down. Sometimes I can't tell if I'm being super aggressive or just me being my natural way of repeating myself because I can't help but speculate about something I'm super into. Folks have there different opinions and all that, mine just happened to have it where I'm super duper on the 'WHERE MY MALE BUN AT!' little girl me was super into that race, and was addicted to FF12. Of course, I was all, wow these women look amazing, I wonder what the men looked like. Incoming headcanon crush on men that haven't even been revealed yet.

The other side of me is totally against the idea of gender locks because of how silly I think they are. I remember wanting to play Black Desert and was instantly blocked by the genderlocks there. Funnily enough, I'm fine with a race like 'Asari' being genderlocked, but I guess that's because they weren't playable and at least they made sense in regards to the lore they have. I guess it boils down to if I have to make a character and already I'm being limited on what I can choose then I'm not happy.

In regards to Hrothgar, it's less, nobody asked for this, we have evidence in this thread that some people wanted this. But my distaste is coming from the idea that they're being introduced to fill a void - rather than added in with love and care. I'd think less of this if they weren't genderlocked since it wouldn't just be another 'limited' race. And yeah, I'm going to be biased regarding them since my personal preference is to play as dreamboats so I have some eye candy to enjoy during cutscenes.

that's good to hear! I just know I run my mouth a lot so I wanted to be sure. lol

I'll just be glad once fanfest happens so at least all the uncertainty will be gone. I think all that tension is what's getting people wound up.
