This is why rmt still exists, despite all of the community hatred towards it.
Do they though?
I've always been surprised how many cash making opportunities Enix has passed on. It took them years to enable buying multiple mogstation items in one purchase for example. There's still no way to preview cash shop glam on your character. They didn't even make close to enough collectors editions. The servers currently aren't built to handle a surge in popularity in the game. There's no shop button ingame. You can't sell mogstation items ingame and there's no FF version of the WoW token (debatable if they should but it's a goldmine for profit).
If they seriously wanted to milk this game, they're doing a poor job of it. Which would be a good thing for us if they weren't turning to things like locking retainers and mobile apps behind paywalls to compensate.
They're giving us more updates, more events and more content than years before. People want more of everything, but don't want SE to get more money for it?
I'm personally glad to know they're earning extra money. I barely use the cash shop, yet I get to enjoy all the content that was created thanks to it. Not a bad situation if you ask me.

No!There were luxury items before the cash shop came along as well, but they were all obtainable with effort instead of opening your wallet. The cashshop is a shill pure and simple.
What they should do is just make cash shop items sellable on the market board. That way people opposed to the cash shop can get it for gil if they want (albeit for a very high fee), and the person selling gets well paid. It would also have the benefit of fighting illegal RMT by keeping the RMT in-house. Why go to some shady site and give them your credit card details for some gil when you can just buy a Cloud bike and sell it on the MB for 150m.
People who don't like the cash shop don't need to get anything from it. They shouldn't get to use their overabundance of gil to get something that would normally cost real world money.
At the same time, people also shouldn't get to use their overabundance of real world money to get extra gil that should be acquired via gameplay. If they want to risk going the RMT way, then that's their problem.
I dislike the idea of WoW token and I hope nothing similar to that ever comes to FFXIV.
Can I ask why you feel this way?No!

When I'm farming for gil, I want the value of that work to not be eroded by real world money shortcut.
When the company decides that something is worth extra real money, I want the value of that money to not be eroded by game time. I think selling old seasonal items that can no longer be earned in game is the best of both worlds as it rewards people who were subscribed when the item was earnable in game, but allows future players to earn it with money knowing that is the only means left to them to earn it.
Just had a quick look at their Lodestone profile. They have the Sleipnir, Fat Moogle, Bennu, Mystic Panda, Aquamarine Carbuncle, Topaz Carbuncle, Indigo Whale, SDS Fenrir, Red Hare, Flying Cumulus, Nezha Chariot and Fatter Cat. In the UK that comes to £164.89. I'm guessing they think that having a lot of 'premium' mounts makes them more special, and don't want other people to be special by spending something lesser like gil.
I don't care what other people do, it's about what I do and how I feel I am spending my resources.Just had a quick look at their Lodestone profile. Housing items in mog station when we can lose housing, that pretty the thing that makes me say : either some items should be account wide or housing need a revamp, we shouldn't have the risk to lose housing as they initially "promised". Worst, if it is a FC house, other players can stole the items we purchase if we place them in FC house (Yes I'm pretty angry against cherry tree).
That pretty one of the main reason why I almost boycott mog station items.
(Or I'm wrong and they drop the delay while we can get back items coming from housing if we lose house? From what I remember, there are only less housing items destroyed in the same time we lose the house, but not the delay while we can get back items to the pnj).
