Some thoughts about the items on sell on the mog station

Everytime I browse the Mog Station and see new mounts, pets or glamour that you have to pay, I feel that it's super wrong from Square Enix to do that.

I don't mind them to sell items from the past events, we had a chance to get them for free. But, items that comes out, without any events, they are the one that I feel it's super wrong. We already pay a monthly subscription, and I actually prefer MMOs who are doing that, because that way we avoid having a cash shop where you need to spend lots of money if you want to get the mounts, glamour and pet. Also, the price are just going up, it's not just 5-10$ for a mount but almost always 30$ now. I really feel that Square Enix needs to stop doing that and always be giving a chance to get those item for free, even if it's just a 1 week or 2 week event...

I also don't mind exclusive special items/emotes that you get from buying a product, like the artbook for example, that's a cool bonus and they never end on the Mog Station, so they stay exclusive.

They're luxury products specifically designed to be sold to players willing to pay a premium for bonus goods. It's a sound business practice and a highly successful one.

If you think that's bad... Wait until you see the subscriptions for RETAINERS and the COMPANION APP for the game >.>

MogStation cosmetics are mostly harmless. Sure, it kind of sucks for them to put so much effort into making stuff to sell for like $30 without a chance to ever earn them in the game... But on the other hand, this directly pays for the time they spend doing this.

Given that game development is a business, everything that is worked on needs to be weighed against how much it costs to spend time working on it vs the payoff it will give.

Though, this is somewhat marred by the fact that Square Enix actually siphons off the majority of the money FFXIV makes to spend on developing other games instead (Such as the FFVII remake and FFXV or FFXVI. Maybe also that Left Alive title that bombed...)

*Sigh* I really wish SE would let XIV's dev team get all the resources that XIV generates so they can afford to spend more time on things...

    As an unrelated side note:

I find it quite amusing that they sold a literal whale mount on the MogStation for all the whales to buy

Not to mention that I do remember hearing that the Mog Station was one of the few avenues of money making that mostly goes back into FFXIV; though I'm having a hell of a time sourcing that claim so if anyone has a source that proves or disproves that I'd be grateful! Also most of the exclusive items that aren't event based on the Mog Station these days were either exclusively designed for it /or/ turn overs from international events for the game. Korea and China both have events that we aren't privvy to in the rest of the world and rather than keep the items from us entirely as they used to do, we now get the chance to get them off the Mog Station instead. It's not exactly ideal, but for me it is a better alternative to never getting those items to begin with.

Honestly I'm not the biggest fan of the prices either, but as the saying goes you need to vote with your wallet. I stopped buying most things from the Mog Station when their prices grew beyond what I was comfortable with.

I know, I pay for them... it's more than x2 for the subscription fees. And that's another big problem, it's totally unfair for those who don't have the income to pay that extra to the game. When Shadowbringer will come out, I'll have 10 retainers to send to get my mats to level my crafter, and that doesn't count the extra space, 8 more retainers + 1 extra sadle bag, this is just unfair for those who can't pay them. It doesn't just give a small advantage. I should have mentionned them too in my original post.

I understand that it's a business, but, it's also not a free game based on a cash shop...

    • Spend the cash shop proceeds on the game and blow all that sweet sub money on FFXV DLC.

      or

    • Spend the subscription money on the game and use the big stack of cash shop funds to do a HD FFVII remake.

Doesn't really matter. End result is the same.

At best the shop is making us look a little better in financial reports and leading to FFXIV getting allocated a little more funding. Maybe.

FF14 is SE's new milking cow. They noticed DLCs dont sell so good and gave up on FFXV for example. They know how to milk the cow, after all they're also a money oriented company. Moo.

Well, I can understand the cash shop but not that fact it is so unfriendly for alts. Mono-character lock is the main problem for me. Considering the price, most items should be account wide.

This thread again. If you don't like their practices, stop giving them your money. It's as simple as that.

Instead of putting things on mogstation (including past event items) they should use them as opportunities to add content.

Who is we? I have many event items that a lot of "we" did not have an opportunity to get.
