I just don't understand. There are literally, LITERALLY, hundreds of empty plots (including the good plots like plots 19-21 in Mist and plot 29 in LB) in less populated servers.
If you really want housing that much why don't you just move?
They have been asking players to move to less congested servers and they even have free transfers.
I actually moved to another server after seeing how empty the wards are through my friend and it was just a 5 to 10-min procedure on MogStation.

Most cases are not actually about more plots, since a lot of S plots are available. Most cases are most likely the subtext of 'but I want a mansion!'.

Because people have friends, communities, reputations, FCs, etc that they dont want to leave to maybe have a chance to get a house.

Free transfers are only if you're moving from a congested server to a preferred server. Most aren't considered congested anymore. Actually, the only congested server now is Balmung.

Also, we currently have a huge influx of new players due to WoW dying, so they're all coming in on whatever server they can, or ones their friends already play on. People shouldn't be forced to move to a different server just to have a chance to get housing. It'd be ridiculous to expect people to pay for a world transfer just to get housing...

They've already said that they can't add wards to one server without adding them to all servers, and they've made it more than clear that they don't want to add wards when a good number of servers have empty houses even when auto demo is paused.

More wards are not the answer and never will be the answer. There will always be someone new coming along to say "but it would help me get a house, and that's all that matters."

Besides, as has been mentioned, with the new server visit abilities people will be able to shift around more freely and choose to "settle" on lower pop servers with houses available and still spend most of their time hanging out on other servers with friends. Is it ideal? Nope, but that's the deal they signed when they decided on non-instanced housing.

It's not "hurricane season", it's particularly nasty ones that completely level/destroy entire swaths of oceanfront cities and towns. Believe it or not, that doesn't happen every year.

People complaining about not having a house in a game when there are houses available is far more stupid.

Don't worry, I'm sure auto-demo will start back up with the data center changes.

I hope 5.0 gets us instanced housing.

They've pretty much failed at every attempt to make housing wards a hub (my ward has 20+ of its 30 plots filled with active FC's and players, and I see maybe 2 of them a week, and 1 player who has an apartment there), so they might as well move to a housing system that will let players get as much enjoyment as possible out of their system. Hell, maybe it would get them to make item placement better.

Let me buy a plot, make a GIGANTIC house with a yard the size of the shroud and decorate it to the nines. And then anyone who wants to see it can find my name on a list of house owners in that clump and pop in.

Forget wards. Just give everyone access to instanced versions of housing plots. Not unlike WoW's garrisons. As you approach the plot, you see your house. but you can click the placard to see all the others there, and select any of them to view / tour. If you're in a group, you'll see the leader's house,. and, your FC's house as well.
