I could see Gunbreaker getting a 'sharpness' mechanic similar to all melee weapons in Monster Hunter. It's comparable to Heat and the function of BLM's MP in their rotation. Certain abilities deplete the meter faster than others, and the less sharpness you have the less damage you do, so eventually you have to build it back up. The idea would be to recover sharpness right before you want to burst, then ride the remaining good windows as long as possible.
If they get ammo, I expect it to be used for cooldowns mostly. Or for a ranged burst phase, making it similar to PLD's Req window.
