Um, Business logic tells you to take a loss if you expect a gain in the long run. Sorry that you don't know anything about a business. Nobody said to give every sub par product for free. BUT, if you say to the customer "we know this isn't what it should be, so please use it for free until we fix it." If you haven't fixed it yet, you can't start charging for it yet. Sorry that you feel you have to whiteknight everything on this forums. Sorry that this game is still broken. Sorry that you think you are smarter than everybody when you probably work at a general goods store.

Only if said losses will contribute towards the potential profits.

Working on 2.0 surely fits that scenario. Keeping the current service live? Lol, no. The current service is pure loss that doesn't contribute to anything.

Your Consumer logic seems to be telling you that as long as someday you might make profit it doesn't matter whether the funds are used for helping homeless squirrels or funding actions that contribute to making the product profitable.

The official statement is, by the way, "the service will be free until we can provide a concrete plan for the game's future". Making up crap sure doesn't help your case here, although it is in line with the rest of your points.

In this industry, the second you take a loss is the second you go out of business or get bought out by a bigger company if you made a loss on a startup IP -- Square Enix took a loss, true but they're a long established company that could afford to take a hit, now they feel they can begin charging for it and what loss would they take compared to when they ran the game with zero net profit? (Box sales are negated within hours of development.)

Too bad you are wrong. SE still makes billions of dollars. Do you think this game is hurting them that much? Why are they releasing game after game after game? Because they can support this game with their other profits. Their stockholders/CEOs are telling them "start charging for this game too; I want more money." Obviously if they thought they couldn't take a loss, why would you EVER start an MMO which has the highest loss to win ratio in the gaming industry. Wrong, about? XIV is a large hit and anyone with any industry knowledge, let alone business knowledge you seem to tout, would know the fact you dump upwards and over 100 million into a product and you don't make even a fraction of that back after you release it -- That's a loss, period. SE makes a ton of money from other IPs and services, but it doesn't vanish from your financial reports that you took a loss on x product during y period.

And this is my main character? Since when? I had this SE account during Alpha my friend, I've long made another account that I play on given that it's what's linked to my FFXI account for not only the bonus, but the initial discount they planned on offering.

So I play the game plenty, thanks for trying though.
