Does anyone play on a Macbook Air with Bootcamp or without? I am thinking about installing Windows 10 on my 2014 MBA, I was mainly just thinking about doing daily crafting and marketboard/retainer stuff on the go, not dungeons or anything. I was just wondering if it was possible and worth the trouble of dual booting?

I've been playing on a 2014 MBA since the Mac client was originally released. I use too much of my storage to take up space with Windows, so it's all in the Mac client. My last Windows system was terribly outdated and played it poorly, so it wasn't much of a change for me.

I didn't get a lot of the crashing and other issues that other people got, but my frame rate tends to float around 15 fps. Every once in a while I get spikes of 40-50. But that lasts for a few seconds, then it's gone again.

For the record, my computer does run hot. But it's never hot enough to be more than a nuisance.

From what I understand, though, if you can spare the space for Windows, running the game in Windows on a MBA massively increases your performance quality.

I just tried it on my current hakintosh, i-5 8400 , gtx 960.
it's slower than when i am in windows 10, specifically i get frames as low as 40 , even lower if i go max settings. it's unplayable.
another issue, there is no borderlines window, just full screen or border.

If you're familiar enough to get a hackintosh working, I'd really recommend you just use WINE directly instead of SE's wrapper. You'll get better performance. (Still not as good as Windows, but better than the Cider/TransGaming/whateverrebrandtheywannacallitnow thing SE had another company do for them.)

edit: Also holy necro. I thought we had a more recent "the mac client sucks" thread, but maybe google didn't pull it up?

You get 40 fps and call that unplayable?! Cry elsewhere!

    haha I guess not well...

Question, you said I could give WINE a try, never actually thought of that, thanks for your suggestion. well that would also save money upgrading my copy, since my Mac version is only licensed for upto heavenward atm, is that correct?

your response would normally trigger me haha, it did not work this time though haha. hmm let's see, 40 FPS can be playable I think I may have took it too far saying it's unplayable. maybe it's just me I am more used to 60 FPS, and the fact I don't have freesync on this monitor makes the 40 FPS look worse than it actually is. yes I do need a new monitor, to make games that are lower than 60 FPS look and feel better.

As long as you've got a Windows Platform on your account, that's all that matters. (Which is why I personally can't recommend the mac client when it's literally just a repackaged windows one for a full platform license cost. But hey, maybe they needed that for licensing or something?)

As for WINE, your mileage may vary depending on version and how gritty you wanna be with the terminal since it's typically command line. I'd probably install a native package or do it through homebrew ( https://brew.sh/ ) so all the path stuff is handled for you. Using Crossover would probably work decently too, but it's been a while since I've really delved into this and Wine's server milestones above the last time I personally did so. IDK if wineskins uses a current release, but that may work as well. I'd definitely make sure you're using a recent release in the 4.X series if possible, although anything in the later 3.X series -should- do well too since they get gold ratings.
