Would you have paid monthly for FFXIV if it was released the way it is today?

Saying its 50% of the game is just stupid. What killed xiv launch was the lack of content for level 50's. If game was released now we would have some content to look forward to other than leveling every class and craft in the game.

No. The game in my opinion is still the equivalent of trying to enjoy yourself in a junkyard.
