I think something big and bulky like the OP posted wouldn't really work based mostly on how animated that weapon is. Most animation in this game comes from the character models, we don't really have fancy transforming weapons outside of a couple unique unsheathing animations, or 1 or 2 machinist weapons that have a unique reload animation.
Can't really compare swords to other weapons, when every fantasy setting has multiple types of sword.
Katana, Sword, Greatsword and Rapier, at least in the final fantasy series, are all distinctly different weapon types with their own associated job roles.

They already tried to inplement a musketeer job, it became Machinist.

If anything, Machinist should get those heavy weapons as powerful finishers or cooldown attacks. Get more focus on its 'machines', like Edgar ftom VI or Prompto in XV.
