and all you need is someone vindictive enough and you're getting ported to gaol and nobody is telling you why or what you did wrong other than "you violated our offense policies"

This is still extremely subjective and vague. What defines “offensive”? It’s very likely that what I find offensive differs from what you find offensive in regards to some things. So, who decides which one of us is “right”?

It’s basically up to the whims of the GM handling the case, which leads to inconsistency. Which, in turn, leads to player frustration because punishments and enforcements end up being all over the place. Look no further than this very forum for an example of that.

If the person reporting finds it offensive, its offensive regardless how you say it. Doesn't matter how you say it. If the GM sides in their favor then the report will stick.

Idk it’s rare for me to defend dev decisions lol, I usually disagree or I’m indifferent. But I feel like thinking these new rules are going to be used to ban everyone with an opinion is maybe a bit of a knee jerk reaction. I highly doubt anyone is going is going to get banned for saying ‘I’m sorry but I disagree because [Logical Reasoning]’.

Now, if you said something like ‘ur opinion is worthless because you’re x on DPS list / a specific race or job / less well geared / etc’. Then you’re not really disagreeing with them, are you? You’re disagreeing with some arbitrary aspect of that person and not their opinion itself.

Basically, you can disagree with people, but don’t be a bastard about it. Is that really such a bad thing to ask lol?

Hopefully this makes it easier for them to deal with harassment / stalking / abuse etc that they had trouble with before.

So yeah, I understand why people would be worried that the new ‘rules’ can potentially abused. But I disagree that adding them will affect normal players in any way. If you do get banned, I’d like to assume there’s a reason for it lol

The rules don't say, "You may not politely tell people how they can play more effectively." They say we're not allowed to "compel a playing style".

"The intended use of Veraero and Verthunder is that you take advantage of the Dualcast trait to cast them instantly as the second spell after a faster spell like Jolt. They're not meant to be slow-casted on their own, as you would only be able to cast 2/3 as many spells this way." is a reasonable explanation of basic RDMing and no reasonable person should find this offensive.

"(Insert Skill Name) (Please use it.)" is usually a reasonable request that does not fall under any of the bullet points of the Offensive Expression section, except possibly the catch-all final bullet point, but a reasonable GM should not support the classification of this type of request as "offensive".

"If you don't use (Insert Skill Name) we're going to kick you" is quite different from either of the other examples and obviously an example of the sort of imperative that the play style rule is meant to guard against.

See, I dont see, if someone is ignoring advice, and actively making the run more difficult by refusing to use parts of their kit, why they shouldnt be kicked. Why would a group have to carry around a dead weight in fear of losing their account, instead of removing the problem and finding someone else who actually wants to participate in the content? Like I wouldnt use the kick function on a genuinely new player, but that skill sunder story happened and we had to remove the tank to finish the dungeon in any kind of reasonable time. I dont want to get marks on my account for thinking finishing the dungeon is more important than someone thinking the animation for a non spammable skill is just too cool to not use 100% of the time.

GMs aren't dumb. In all likelihood, the person making a false claim of "emotional distress" will be the one punished for abusing the report feature (which is also a punishable offense).

So you say that but I rolled with a group, I wasn't in the party this day, that someone told that to a person in my group just in a shorter way, then they person told said that they were a mentor so they know how to play the game. That person said they don't play like a mentor and got kicked for saying that one line because they had group majority, 5 players. Then was corrected by a friend later saying that they shoudn't be casting verthunder/aero mid boss fight and what was said was "oh well. he got what he deserved."

Its already abused its just now going to be worse for some people because they can rules lawyer themselves into being right now.
