Viera Race "Confirmed" for 5.0! Are you gonna change races?

It feels like most male and female characters use face 1 because it's the easiest to work with combo. Of the males the imbalance is especially noticeable - very few people play the "old" face despite it having such nice horns.

I use face #3 for my male Au Ra. The horns are kind of weird but the face is nice, and that was more important.

People rarely use the 'old' face options for any of the races. In a pure RP, playing around sort of game it would be different - if I could create a character and instantly have access to everything just to play dress-ups with them, I'd certainly try out some of those characters. As it is, I've played around with them in the character creator and made face designs that work nicely, but I wouldn't want to put the countless hours into leveling them through a story that's clearly written with a younger protagonist in mind.

personally, I would have rather had swappable horns than the limbal rings.

I don't think they could give the option for horns instead of limbal rings, because it's a different type of setting - two options that toggle on or off independently, associated with a colour selection, instead of "pick one of four" for the horns/tails. Every race seems to have one setting that uses this bit of data, but the actual things are different: usually it's race-specific tattoos, though Wildwood Elezen get the choice of coloured earrings instead.

An interesting alternative to limbal rings could have been colour customisation on the horns, similar to Yugiri and Mide having unique colours! Though I think the limbal rings are a bit more necessary for Xaela males so their eyes stand out more.

I still think it's weird that only male Xaela have the black eyes. Either do it for all males, or (preferably) all Xaela, but not just one gender of one clan.

As for Viera: In a perfect world I would have liked to be able to change Viera ear style and length, but al those ears looked to be about the sameish size so Im curious what the other customization features are.

I assume there'd be an ear-length slider similar to Elezen and Lalafell.

There are definitely at least two kinds of ear designs for the characters in the preview video - the blonde girl's ears have more fur at the base and are wider towards the tip, and are quite a bit taller compared to the size of her head.

The pink- and white-haired girls have the same ears, and those seem to be different lengths too. It's a bit hard to judge when they're not standing at the same distance from the camera, but I think the pink girl's ears are a little bit longer.

Actually there are three. The two women with pink and white hair have the tactics, thick, fluffy ears. The blonde has ears that are thinner towards the bottom, wider up top, with one tuft at the tip, and the one with the dark hair has sleeker ears, with a more consistant thickness.

I will likely roll an create a new character as my Mateus page is missing a taller lady option. If males are a thing (and handsome) I'll likely fanta one of my caught-up alt mains.

So from the images I've seen I'm 100% certain that ears won't be tied to anything other than ear options.

If you look at the renders and the video, there seems to be a seam between the ears and hair, almost like there was a "slot" for the option to "plug" into.


As for length, idk. we might get a "scale" option that just universally grows or shrinks the ears in all directions evenly instead of a pure length slider like the elezen and lalafell ears. Just stretching the ears vertically would cause the textures to stretch as well, and that usually never looks good

It's kind of the reason why the height slider universally grows or shrinks our characters instead of gives the characters the body types of a tall or short person.

I pretty much rolled with Miqo'te due to not liking the other races much.
I mean I LOVE Au Ra but the whole "horn being attached to a certain face type" was really off-putting.
My favourite horns were stuck to the face I liked the least and vice versa.

So yes, I am very excited for Viera. They look exactly like the type of race I'd play.

Realistically everyone should play a lalafell, since all the other races are just hyur with animal parts or awkward mutations. Am I doing the pessimism thing correctly?

I mean it's the difference between someone fantasiaing from a hyur to an elezen. Not only are the both taller with longer ears, but you're going from a plucky, outgoing race, to a more reserved and sheltered one. Sure it's not like going from human to tauren in WoW, but there are still differences between the two that are thematically significant in fantasy.
Humans have always had their elf counterparts, I really don't see why demi-beasts shouldn't get one as well.

I certainly plan to go, Viera, if they males are available. As a female player, I prefer to play as the males, never been a fan of being a female toon in games like this. If they don't release a male then I guess I'll just stick with Hyur and complain with the rest of those wanting to finally meet/play male Viera till they inevitably give in.
