BLM also draws from their own aether reserves, thats the entire BLM story arc, and why you need the soulstone to practice advanced thaumaturgy.

As these mage jobs have developed through the series, there's been somewhat of a trend of the 'advanced' jobs being as follows:

    Black Mage > Magus
    White Mage > Seer
    Red Mage > Sage

And with the NPCs having non-typical or advanced jobs, sure, Sage is sn option.
However I believe Louisoix was referred to as a Sage.

I think Y'shtola/Matoya is in fact a Magus.

I'm gonna guess she is Magus. The reason I say that is because the WoDs we faced had different class names (WHM was Oracle and the Elezen BLM was called Magus of Darkness) even though they were basically the same as our class but named differently due to being from another Shard. The fact Yoshi-p keeps saying she is "like" a BLM makes me just think she is Magus.

I very much agree with what you have said and yes most likely she will die.

Matoya's always admonished Y'Shtola for using aether to see because of its toll on her, and has repeatedly even told the WoL in personal conversations to take care of her. I'm willing to bet that Matoya's using her own life force to supplement Y'Shtola's and keep her safe, which would likely be why it seems like her eyes are recovering. Y'Shtola's using Matoya's staff in 5.0, and with the Crystal Eye set in it.

Nah. He would have phrased it differently ("what wouldst..."), in keeping with his use of early modern English. I don't think it's a title, and her reference to holding the fort whilst they await their friend's return is also suggestive of a body hop. We don't know how yet, but we will find out.

Could just be more misdirection and maybe it's a title, sure, but of all the Scions, Y'shtola's soul has been taxed the most, first through the use of Flow, then maintaining sight through the use of magic and then again when she wove her spell in the House of the Crooked Coin. So she may prove to be the hardest to reconnect with her soul of all the Scions. So I'm willing to take what we're seeing at face value and look forward to finding out how Matoya accomplished it... she is an expert on aetheric transfers, and may have a spell or trick up her sleeve for doing such with an empty body.

Also as a general remark on the topic, I don't put too much weight on exact designations for NPC jobs. A lot of them make wider use of abilities than we do, but still specialise in the same general area as a given class or job, e.g. Ishgardian inquisitors. The robes, staff and fire everywhere are certainly highly indicative of thaumaturgy/black magic, and this is just shortly after Y'shtola was given a THM rework in Dissidia, so that is the area in which I'd pigeonhole this character.

I don't think it is. The top of Matoya's staff has a very noticable "hand" shape to it, and Y'shtola's has a more abstract spiraling shape.
