I too am more interested in male viera as a concept than female viera. Bunny girls have been a sex symbol since Playboy really took off (or maybe before that? I don't know), so the design of female viera outfits (and the concept), at least for me, just seem like fanservice. (Especially the whole stiletto heel thing - if their feet naturally evolved like that, why on earth would they require stilettos just to attain basic mobility?)

Same goes for catgirls. The fact that catgirls were initially only female races in the various FF titles just makes me feel like the devs were only comfortable with women conforming to this particular aesthetic (that of animal ears+tail are only acceptable on women and that they're meant to be sexy).

Anyway here's hoping they're a good design. Either lacy metal lingerie for males or...actually I'm hoping for lacy metal lingerie for males.

A loincloth would be a better fit for the men. The original beefy concept art appeals to me quite a bit and I hope they end up being designed in a similar manner.

I'd happily settle for something in a similar vein to the Ronso, though. Especially if it boasted similar aesthetics to Byakko.

Gotta say, the outfit worn by the short one is pretty much how I've been sketching my hypothetical male Viera :P

I wouldn't want to play one myself, but for RP purposes I really hope we get male viera and not two mono gender races. The lore isn't really an excuse when SE WRITES THE LORE and could have simply not written male viera in a way to make them maybe not work as playable, if they do indeed go that route.

Haven't seen a satisfying enough (for me) answer to this, so I'll provide one. I'm a guy irl. I like my characters being representations of myself. So I play male characters. My current one is kind of an exception, in that I don't see myself as him. He's more eye candy for me. Oh, that's my second reason that I almost never play female characters in MMOs. I like dudes. If I make a character for eye candy purposes, he's going to be a man.

So a male bunny best represents you? What's wrong with the eye candy you have now? Would you still be upset with this even if it was established in lore that there were no male Viera at all? What if they added an all male race later? What if the male Viera just looked like the females, minus boobs? What would even be the point in that?

Look, I'm not against the idea of male Viera. They're in the lore, but like all other FF games with Viera they are rare. If they're going to be added, I want them to be masculine. I want them to be the male Viera in lore (the strongest survivors). Otherwise, what's the point in having them? Just play a female version if you want an effeminate bunny. Role play a little.

I'm also not against equality, if said equality isn't just pandering (bunny outfits). The point I'm trying to make, is that even if we were getting an all male race, this kind of social justice thread would pop up. They pop up constantly, and the argument is always the same. The OP wants "equality," but it's almost always because of a desire to have something that they want individually (case in point: guys with heels). And it doesn't matter if it breaks FF traditions, lore, immersion, game mechanics, or future development plans; just as long as they get their own personal "eye candy" as you put it.

The devs then feel pressured to stop and address some minor issue like this. (And yes, this is a minor issue.) FFXI to this day has female/male only playable races, and has never had to change that to make the game enjoyable. Many games do this. Would you avoid Tomb Raider, or Horizon: Zero Dawn, just because the protagonist is female? Just because it isn't the right "eye candy?" Should we ask the devs to do away with female characters in MSQ, just because they don't please your senses?

My point in all of this: It's a little hypocritical to say something isn't all it can be just because it's not male with heels, while totally ignoring the lore saying the strength of the Viera is with the females of their race. You're in essence saying that female Viera aren't good enough to stand on their own, and be equals with the races we have. They have to have their male counterparts with them to make them equals.

You can say I'm reaching on that, but I'm not wrong. OP is basically saying that female Viera just aren't good enough without males.

That all being said, I still think they have male Viera in development, and simply didn't have a video ready to go. They really didn't go into huge detail with the female Viera just yet either. But they probably had enough in development after making Fran.

    What?

OP just said that he wanted Male Viera, ideally with the heels.

He never said that the Viera race needs the males, nor that the race is somehow inferior without the males being available.

He merely mention that he would like to have male Viera.

Same thing for everyone else in this thread, no-one has stated anything about the race NEEDING the males to exist, only they drew comparisons to previous gender locked races that had their alternate gender made available later as a sign that male Viera might come eventually (Or at the very least, a new Male locked race to provide some equality between available genders and races)

You're reading Social Justice where there is none. OP merely stated that they would like male Viera to be playable. That is in of itself, an innocent enough opinion. It's up to SE to see if it fits with their lore ideas and what not. But so far, no-one's trying to argue that it's NECESSARY to have male Viera, only that they personally would like it.

Uhhh sorry no that's not how it works. Not all gay players want to play as women. Some do, and that's totally fine, but people like me don't want to have to be forced to play as a female in order to preserve the lore which is already broken by Paissa houses and motorcycles in the game. I like playing as male, and I like being able to dress my character as masculine or feminine as I want. Whether someone wants to play as a super-macho-bara Roegadyn in a speedo or a Viera male in full drag dressed up as Frank from Rocky Horror Picture Show is none of your business.
