Collector's Edition Concerns

I have been a fan of this game for a while now and have been very happy with the results but have always bought the Standard or Digital Deluxe editions. This time I'm thinking about getting the Collector's Edition because it looks awesome (and my sister and I sat down a figured out that it is well worth the price even from a monetary standpoint.) However, because of recent problems in the gaming industry with Collector's Editions *cough* Canvas Bags *cough cough* I'm a little hesitant to buy one.

My questions for folks who have been playing this game a long time and have bought Square Enix Collectors Editions before:Is everything that is advertised as part of the package present as advertise and, if it is, is it good quality stuff?

(Side note for Square Enix Staff: I do appreciate it if you read this and respond but this is more for customers for what I hope are obvious reasons.)

I didn't get the last CE myself, but I have friends who did who were very happy with the contents, and everyone I know who's ordered a statue has said that they're high quality work. I've never heard a complaint about the amount or quality beyond people who, for whatever reason, want everything to be free.

I can't recall all the occurrences but I remember there were slight differences in packaging in the past, where the Japanese CE had better quality packaging (the one I'm thinking of specifically was two expansions ago lol). The inside stuff though, the things listed that come with the CE, are all the same iirc.

Or in other words if it says canvas bag you'll get a canvas bag, not some nylon thing.

I think the only questionable thing we’ve gotten out of CE’s is the statue from HW.

The HW statue was... not amazing.

But everything aside from that was just fine. The statue itself looks like the statue they showed off, but it's quality left something to be desired.

I never got the SB CE because $, but as far as I can tell they learned from that and made the quality better.

yeah the HW dragon statue was very much ehhhhhhhhhh, but Zenos statue in SB CE was much better.

CE statues are of the same quality you would expect from the Square-Enix store. Which is to say, they could be a lot better. Compared to what professional figure companies like Alter produce, the quality is much worse.

This is absolutely not a canvas bag situation, but personally if I'm spending $100+ on a figure, I want it to look much better than what SE is capable of producing.

Edit: I was a little too harsh. While SE's Play-Arts KAI line is abysmal, their statues are adequate. I still don't think they're worth the price, but they're decent.

Wonder if their statue sales would increase or decrease if they increased the price a little and matched some of the WoW detail in statues. Also, how people would respond to such an expensive statue. Curious, as I don't have data lol.

Like odin statue is neat, but the painting/detail doesn't, imo, match something like an Illidan (of course Illidan cost like 200 more so it better lol):

Odin is definitely a far more cost friendly purchase (looks nice, doesn't cost an entire console to buy ).

Yeah I haven't gotten any PCEs myself (since I do not trust my beasties to not knock over or otherwise destroy expensive statues), but from what I've seen, they've listened to the feedback about the HW statue and upped the quality.
Personally I think the ShB statue looks kind of... tacky? Like it's too bright and clean for my idea of a WoD dark knight. And I'd prefer the statue to be a major NPC in the expansion's story than have it be SE's male midlander player stand-in. 'Cause that ain't my WoL/D (I know it says dark knight not WoD, but it looks like the derplander with a helmet on so i'm interpreting it as that). But that's all subjective stuff, its make actually looks quite good, and its posing is dynamic enough to be interesting.
I'd say everything in the bundle (fandom-tax included) the $200 price seems about right.
(though why give the game a fancy game case when there is no disc??)

Good point at the end, I was wondering the exact same thing. So far it looks like a go with some reservations on the statue based on HW CE but with a note of improvement for SB CE
