But, can't we just stick the job-gutting genie back in his bottle instead of pretending that functionality and identity are mutually exclusive?
Well BLU was a horrible design for a soloing job. I was thinking it was going to be this OP job that would solo all the old level 50 content, I was dead wrong.
As for Beast Tamer idea, it's a completely different system than what normal class/jobs are and would play like a classic RPG. As the player, you aren't going to running around the Open World attack mobs and using weapon skills. You would have a completely different menu that specifically would command your pet to either attack, defend, use a command abilities or use a item. The player will be completely invisible/invulnerable during the fight putting all the focus on the beast battle. It will be a completely Open World job meaning you can't go through dungeon or trials. You can have 1v1 pet battles with other players and maybe a battle colosseum.
You'll store and retrieve pets from a Tamer Ranch as well as gather specific and unique items from that family of beast that wouldn't drop in the open world. This should complete the Land gathering circle because you would be gathering items from defeated monster in beast battles as well have gathering items from your tamed monsters.
Honestly I would like to see Hunter / Ranger be a ranged dps job that would play similar to FFV that would call upon animals to do specific attacks. This would most likely be a better fit for what players are thinking when talking about Beast Master as well as a better fit for FFXIV combat system.
