This site breeds toxic communities like The Balance and elitists mindsets. It also uses job and ability symbols ripped from the game files and profits on SE copyrighted content through advertising. It's also constantly used to name and shame players. Use of the website also requires use of third party tools that break the games ToS. What's worst is that one must make an account and forcibly opt out in order to be excluded from the site.

SE, please take advantage of the site owner's legal liability and force him to immediately take down his toxic website. It is an affront to everything stood for in this great community

Seems to me it's creating communities that create content where none would otherwise exist and retains players where the game otherwise could not.

Its issues are few (percentile largely based on how padded your parse is and not at all on how much rDPS one gives) and its benefits many (reruns for fun, coaching, guides, and a secondary sense of progression).

And on the whole The Balance is far from toxic or even elitist.

FFlogs swapped to an rDPS-first approach about 6 months after this thread began. This, too, has certain problems though, as it gives jobs particularly able to feed buffers their rDPS through advantaged burst damage no credit for having done so. Granted, that too is more a community problem (easily addressed by just looking also at the difference between raw and adjusted damage to see how much rDPS they grant others, the problem itself stemming just from people assuming they know more about how contribution works than they do and/or being too lazy to make full use of the information available).

Regardless, FFlogs' only vulnerability to action would be its symbols, which they could just swap to any of various parody icons and, poof, they'd have zero liability.

The only change I would advocate for is to make it opt-in (perhaps using just the name of the job for those who don't opt-in), but it absolutely should NOT be taken down. Either a different site will pop up like people said, or you lose anyone with interest in their DPS numbers, which will be a very sizeable chunk of the playerbase. Would FFXIV survive that? Probably, but that's still a huge wad of cash SE are losing. So it's not in their business interests to take down the site.

If you tackle content you are logged in on a regular basis, they can be used for fast checking to see if the player in question is good for the Ex farm or Weekly savage pugs or whatever it is you do. If you want to hide your logs, thats also fine, people just will be suspicious about it. And if it was opt-in, people would just do the same thing, no logs? Well, something fishy is going on, and the results would be the same.

And when it comes to harassment and toxicity and whatever, everything, EVERYTHING can be misused. Look at Youtube as an example, vast majority don't use it for toxic and bad behaviour, but some still do, so maybe we should shut it down too?

See, I'd be fine with it being automatically uploaded for every run as to provide something consistently representative. But, it isn't. It has to be installed and readied separately from the game, and not everyone will do that or have it put up. Thus, representation is already skewed. Given that, I'd rather see representation be solely voluntary on the part of those affected, rather than at least as much on the part of those around them. If it's going to be skewed, it shouldn't encourage avoiding anyone with the software on days when you can be brought down by some factor outside your control just to keep your history representative of how you play when actually in a static or mostly controlled environment. It's quite frustrating to join what ends up a trap party just to have your parse uploaded by someone who is fine with, say, putting up an 18th percentile of their own as long as it means sticking it to everyone they managed to troll in the process, and not at all useful to informing later groups or static (yet affects a player's average and history just the same).

going to the website is proof enough, your parsing numbers are being displayed with-out the players consent and IS against the TOS espically the way it is being used to shame other players. I had already given SE the website address about a month ago,showing it is displaying each charter data without there conscent to other players. Unknown if it will be taken down, but t he site should be removed and the website administrator should be punished for this infraction.

There's an option for you to hide your own logs and have them not be shown directly from the website itself. By your logic, we should also punish the people parsing and uploading their own logs for the improvement of themselves because god forbid no one asked you for your permission first over something that doesn't even effect you in any way until you let it basically.

For people who don't parse or say that they don't care, they're putting a lot of attention into something that hasn't stopped them from paying their sub or playing the way that they want to for years.

There's no proof to be found or had and people like you and the OP are chasing after ghosts in the dark basically simply out of a personal vendetta with a website and administrator that doesn't owe you an apology in any way, shape, or form.

But why should they get your consent if the data they're showing about you is already out in the public? It's like saying no one should take a screenshot of something you said in the chat log and post it on another website unless you consent to that.
