Will we see Maat-like fights ?

    Hello community

For those who didnt play FFXI, Maat was a NPC who gave you a quest at the end of which you could level your toon past 60, 65 and 70. The quest was to bring him a low-droprate item, and then you had to fight Maat himself. Maat was your character's mirror, with the same skills and magic.

Maat is legendary. Back in the days, several years ago, when you reached the first level cap ( 60 ), you knew you'd have quite a hard time taking your toon a step beyond. The quest was not hard, but the fight was. It required preparation, equipment, potions, strategy and steel nerves sometimes (exactly what FFXIV lacks).

It is not a question. It is a demand : please give good ol'Maat a free tour in Eorzéa. I understand that he must be tired after the countless fights against raging XI players, he needs holidays. But i'm sure Maat would love to kick some arses in XIV !

Please clik the "like" button if you want Maat back in XIV for some serious business !

I doubt it since even mere mention of XI on these forums send people off to eat babies and kicking puppies out of blind rage -- I do agree though, Maat or even his Tarutaru Successor for the level 99 cap fight would be a great fight to reintroduce into this game.

It was a true test of skill at your job since while yeah you can try to cheap things out, it doesn't always work because even though he's a copy of your job, he's also a high level Monk. It was a really fun fight because it made sure you knew how to utilize your job. The Taru is a party fight and unless you weaken him, he'll wreck even the most skilled group of players simply because you can't zerg it or lollygag around either..actual strategy.

I don't know if it'll be maat himself, but I think something similar will be there, once we get genki 1-5. I hope so at least. FFXI had a lot of great things, and that's why people played it for 8-9 years. People bitch a lot, but they also DID spend hundreds of hours playing. There had to be a reason for that.

Oh no, Maat was just a MNK with whatever abilities/spells your job had. I mean hell, chain spell Asuran Fists from 50 yards away back to back? Yeah that made total sense

This sounds intriguing, but also sounds like it was part of FFXI's evolution, and probably wasn't present prior to classes being fully formed and balanced, yeah? Otherwise the Maat fight would have to be updated constantly.

They got around this nicely -- He didn't know the art of Blue Mage (rightfully so given storyline), being a Corsair, Puppetmaster, Dancer or Scholar -- There were respective leaders of each that you fought against (generally who you learned the job from.) As well as it being the 70 cap fight, they didn't do much that broke the fight balance, it actually made it easier for some jobs who already had it easy (WHM) and only if you leveled your divine magic. (Most WHM's didn't.)

Ignoring the fact he couldn't WS you if you weren't within 4 yalms of him as non Ranger...but that's a topic for a different time.

I have fond memories of XI, but I could never play a game like it again; not because I dislike that type of game, but I literally could not play it. I was 17 when that game came out for PC. Throwing up my LFG flag, waiting for 2 hours, partying for 5 hours, getting 3 hours of sleep, then going to school and sleeping through half my classes seemed totally reasonable. I could come home from school and spend five hours trying to get a group to help me with my BLM testimony. That type of content doesn't work for me anymore. If I did that type of thing now, my wife would hand me divorce papers and my boss would throw me out on my ass.

I realize I'm probably in the minority on this forum, but I don't want mandatory quests that can possibly take weeks to complete. It felt like an accomplishment back then, but now it would just make me quit.

I hear you. I'm sure SE knows it too, their players' pyramid of age is wider than even 5 years only. So there must be content for everyone. But here, we do not talk about contentn that take ages to achieves, given the fact that your "testimony" or whatever item you need has a higher drop rate than 0.001%.

The fight against Maat himself wasnt long, but it was sooo hard. Thats why i liked it and i want to see something like this in XIV.
