Actually 30 people online is enough for me, because that's about the amount of players online at peak times between my main linkshells. All I really need is 7 other people to enjoy the game. 10k, 40k, or 50k players is significant to talk about because of the jump to subscriptions. Even after half the people leave there will still be plenty of people to play the game with, except maybe for Karnak. lol. Vedis check out the other thread because you are going to have a hard time getting 50k out of the numbers people are posting in there.

i havew been checking the other thread
and it says the same thing you do, that the "peak hour population" is 100% of the world population which is retarded

    people arent doing correct math

I'd say peak hour population is 30% of the population not 100%

peak 30% asumes that people play on average 8 hgours a day which just cant be true in a sense of reality

your looking at closer to 15%, which isnt much different but again we come to the fact that how many people playing this game is ONLY important to those who want a reason to say bad things about it

this isnt a competition of population, we all know who wins that hands down no matter what any other game does

I don't quite understand the chart- do they count the number of people online at peak time, and the result is the no.shown in the chart?

If so, the actual playerbase size is multiple times that. In XI's case most servers had an active population of about 20k people, simultaneously online being around 2500~3500 at time. It came down to around ~300k total players a while ago.

i would be surprised if the current playerbase is as much as 100k, but considering these numbers it's actually realistic. Quite high, but most likely drops to ~50k soon enough. That's pretty much what I had assumed.

If those 50k people pay for the upkeep fees (not the developer/development fees.....) Then it was a worthwhile thing to do. Can't see why it wouldn't.

12000 players online at peak time is not the same as 12000 total subscriptions. Likely the subscription count right now are somewhere in the 30-40k region, expect it to drop 20-30% after january.

Still very low numbers though, I hope SE do something about it.

I could care less what the total population is. It doesn't help me when the peak population is still so low during NA primetime.

That's actually basic numbers for non-clone MMOs. Some MMOs only have only 3 servers worth of population split between it's respective regions.

MMOs with "millions of players" you never even interact with, you still only interact with a select amount of people at a given time outside of cities or PvP arenas.

I was wondering how you can see the total number of players online, my search caps at 200.

You just have to search by Grand Company, and add it all up, you may also need to vary the levels a bit to get a running total.

TheVedis...the problem here is servers like Karnak and Mysidia (the less populated ones), are at about 250 players during NA primetime. That's pathetic if you don't belong to one of the big 50-100 man shells, you won't get a whole lot done. It's clear judging by your sig that you play a lot and have friends within your shell to get things done, that's fantastic but not the case for every player.

With 250 players and about 80% of those being level 50, good luck leveling up in a party anywhere between 10-49. Certain servers during JP peak time only hit about 600-800 on a Friday night, right after a patch, again, very low numbers. People can argue, other non-big MMO's have only 3 servers, that's fine, but they have quite a few people on them at any given time, not 250! There could be 100,000 subscriptions right now, but if only a handful of them are logging on, there's a problem.

These populations are discouraging because to have a healthy MMO with lots of content, it has to be profitable. Ya, you won't interact with millions of other players, but you'll get expansions, lots of content with patches, more game tweaking, etc if the game is raking in millions a month vs hundreds of thousands a month.

I'll also say, I enjoy this game, do have a level 50 job, and will probably pay to play. Either way you look at this though, it's not good for the long term of this game, you WANT subscriptions and lots of them. I want to see 4-5 expansions for this game with great cutscenes and a good storyline and new events being added every few months.
