In HoH or PoTD you always start from 0 or 30/50 depending, you can never go back beyond that.yes PotD and HoH 1 mistake or god forbid a single dc when solo goodbye however many floors you tried gotta restart and they have titles like Mahjong.
Personally i'd rather have the orchestrion roll be complete x challenges like the twintania is for LoV can't get deepeye though
NOT the case in Mahjong, you start from 1500 and can go backward and a hefty amount of luck is involved. Titles for rating is fine, but a music roll is a very odd choice.
the person asked if their are any achievements you can regress on. dc on floor 134 solo and then having to restart at floor 1 is regressing your progress on it now with ranked pvp you always regress a few tiers and have to work up from there some people going back to untiered (basically 0) for Mahjong the goalpost starts at 1500 but you could regress to 0 never below 0In HoH or PoTD you always start from 0 or 30/50 depending, you can never go back beyond that.

You'd have to get 52 first place wins in a row if you wanted to get back around your 1500 score in Mahjong. Or 167 games in a row to get back to around 1500 if you were managing to get second place again and again.the person asked if their are any achievements you can regress on. dc on floor 134 solo and then having to restart at floor 1 is regressing your progress on it now with ranked pvp you always regress a few tiers and have to work up from there some people going back to untiered (basically 0) for Mahjong the goalpost starts at 1500 but you could regress to 0 never below 0
It's pretty....''''interesting'''' to let people backpedal on something that's obviously a mini-game time sink, one that a majority of people are seeming to have an issue on, but people keep trying to compare it to other activities, which doesn't feel fair. You can get through a single floor set of HoH/PoTD in less time than it usually takes for ONE game of mahjong, and you'd come out of it with some form of loot at the bare minimum, while with Mahjong if you're one of the two unlucky people to lose, you're all the worse for it.
Please show support for chocobo boots to be added -> http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/323512-Suggestion-for-an-item-to-be-added-to-gold-saucer-Chocobo-Boots
Unhappy with how they implemented Mahjong? -> http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/381358-Mahjong-is-the-most-depressing-mini-game-you-ve-added-to-XIV
I think ranking rather than rating would be a better achievement. Getting to 1st kyu would still be a considerable challenge and a big grind but it wouldn't be the same 1 step forward 5 step backwards that rating is.

Somewhere between 5th or 3rd Kyu was my first thought, but something along these lines is where the roll should be. The ability to get rolled back considerably from where you start is just downright dishearting and adds a huge layer of stress if you really want the roll.
the person i 1st responded to asked if there are any achievements that you can regress on so i answered with an example but let's take a better example of a mini-game that has ranked matches that's in the gold saucer right now, LoV I by no means think this should've been added and i find it the biggest continually drain on dev time as every new minion has to be used for this with stats/abilities/animations etc sorted, but it does reward much better than Mahjong does, you can start at any time and it not effect you rank points you have challenge mode to test yourself clear all 24 get a minion something Mahjong could benefit from gradual harder npcs, can do non ranked matches against npc or a player this ofc give you nothing and ranked matches which you do at your leisure for 1 minion and titles the equivalent for Mahjong orchestrion roll and titles and LoV offers decent mgp for time invested whereas Mahjong doesn't and LoV actually has a tutorial that isn't text (Challenge 1 for those who don't know). You'd have to get 52 first place wins in a row if you wanted to get back around your 1500 score in Mahjong. Or 167 games in a row to get back to around 1500 if you were managing to get second place again and again.

TLDR i find Mahjong the better mini-game and has more staying power with their niche audience but it is even worse of an implementation than LoV to new people just text as tutorial forced rank decay if not facing npcs for losses so taking new people into PvP games is just going to make people stop early with the i can never win why bother mentality and rewards are not worth the time investment for majority of people like the mgp payout should be at least 5k for 4th place 10k for 3rd 15k for 2nd 20k for 1st and give it something people can obtain just by playing npcs to ease it people in easier
Buddy of mine just lost 10 points off his rating for a second place tie because of where he sat in regards to the dealer.
Yeah, I think this system needs another look at by the devs.
