We only see two every 42 hours in the story, right?). Ronso, or the concept art for FFXI's Galka (yes, they could have been lionmen), or something new entirely are the most likely 'lion-like' race.

Still would prefer Lupin, or something that already exists on FFXIV and not something left for the absolute last second again. Heck, make the Bangaa playable. I know people would absolutely love them to be playable (not a fan of their XII design, but hey. They're more well known/popular than the Rev).
I say "Most likely Rev" because they're Ivalician. Then again my brain is still focused on Ivalice in general thanks to the recent raid content and the Viera. It would make more sense to either have a new race or take from a different Final Fantasy. Like I said I'm hoping for Ronso instead. The real question would be what sort of content will we be seeing that would introduce the next race. Tactics/FF XII content is introducing Viera, so stands to reason another race may be introduced the same way.

Lupin would've been great, though. I mean we do already have a "feline" race. Why not a canine one instead of yet another feline? Ooh, and Burmecian. I just saw the tags for this thread. My favorite race in FF IX. What happened to them was tragic though.

Indeed it was tragic. I could see their role in Hydaelyns story mirroring IX's. They could have Burmecia get destroyed by some sort of event. I.e. Garleans, ascians, etc. Which would displace the race all over the continents. I would honestly love to have a race that is almost wiped out, but immigrated into Eorzean culture. They could add Burmecians to various settlements that we already have, and tie the destroyed settlement i.e. Burmecia/Clayra to dungeons, raids, or even a zone.

The problem with new races for this game is that the game is not well suited to having alts.

As someone with 4 characters all geared and up to 4.5 or done with it... it was not easy and it required making limits on my activities that I would not have to make in other MMOs.

This game prefers people playing a single character through all the classes / jobs...

That makes it hard for players when it comes to races - because each choice is a loss of ability to try out the others. The more races the game has, the more conflicted players will become over those choices.

If it was an alt friendly game, we could have dozens of races and not worry about. The whole reason I have 4 characters is that I like 4 of the races...

Viera is likely to cause me to have to make a very difficult choice.

Imagine if we had some 2 dozen races here. Granted so far SE's race design has been very repetitive... I like 4 of them, but the races here are very similar to each other.

But let's imagine we all liked all 24 of them, but still only could viably play one character to perfection...

    That's just unneeded drama.

As much as I'd love the game to have all sorts of additional races, I dread what that choice would do to us...

I noticed something yesterday that's relevant... What if we get female Viera and male Lupin?

Answer me this. Through all of Stormblood, FFXIV had ONE Lupin model. The tailtip, the kimono, the same animations. Suddenly, with Eureka (I know I'm late to the party) they show a random NPC to CLEARLY have a higher quality model.

This model on the left comes from Eureka cutscenes, on the right is the generic Doman Enclave woof. Look at the way the tailtip is shaped, the Eureka model has a fully defined back and chest, how the chin has more polygons. And while I can't show it here, even the animation is better. Doman Enclave = 2 second idle tail-movement. Eureka = 5 second idle tail movement, less repetitive, closer to qote but not identical.

Why would this random NPC get the love of a new model if there wasn't more to it? A Lupin is just a Hyur wearing qote pants and helmets... easy to animate, cheap to add. And they can avoid male Viera (no one wants a horde of male bunnies, dear gods).

So make your own assumptions, I made mine =P

We also don’t have many options for males.

You’re either insanely tall, injected with steroids, or super short Lala.

There is male Miqo’te but they have weird tails that clip, and highlander but they just look awkward.

They should have made a tall and short version of Au Ra for male and female like they did Hyur. But for whatever reason they chose to make the only difference in appearance their scales, similar to Miqo’te which limits options...

A better option would be just to allow us to pick scale color and be short or tall.

    - Roegadyn, Elezen, and Highlander are all tall races.

    - Au Ra men made it four.

    - Viera will make it five.

    - Lalafells are completely on their own as a short race.

    - Miqo'te, female Au Ra, and Midlander are all about average height. They are the medium races.

Short has one, Average has three, and tall will have five in the future. This puts the games racial diversity at a disadvantage.

It is time for the devs to not give up, and add a smaller race before they give up.

Some ideas include Burmecians/Clayrins, Ivalice Moogles, or the small Feol Viera.
Ah so you seek balance? I am no stranger to that! Can be a foreign concept to the dev team though.

I almost want to place Au ra females as one of the 'short' choices to bring that ratio up a bit. Not even kidding you, they are seriously tiny as eff. Even next to my female Midlander, who granted, is at max height on the slider but this only makes her 5'5 (165cm) iirc, so even the taller ones probably only make it to 5'1(154cm) at best. They still don't have stubs for arms and legs though.

Moogles have been playable in the turn-based console FF games, but now they fly almost perpetually unless they've consumed too many kupo nuts, drank something they shouldn't have, or are just being super lazy; either of which incapacitates them. They wouldn't have to use something in-game already though. Another short race can be an entirely new design concept.

Adding a female only race or a male only race would be incredibly divisive. If they're adding female Viera, we need to have male Viera, and then popular races such as Lupin and Dwarves should be added. I'd rather them take their time on adding races than for them to spew out gender locked races at a faster rate.

I wouldn't call Male Midlander or Male Miqo'te insanely tall or injected with steroids. Clipping and awkward looks aside, they still qualify as medium sized male avatars. And while the Elezen males are tall, they are nowhere near as robust as male Au ra, Highlanders, and Roes. Even female Roes are bigger than they are!

And so are female Miqo'te then if you want to classify them as small races. At the smallest height possible they are 4' 11" which is only 2 inches more than the smallest Au Ra at 4' 9". Yes they can be rather short on the extreme side but not something I would call a small race like lalafell, dwarves, goblins etc. They are still a relatively normal sized and proportioned race compared to the average human.

Also the tallest lalafell is 3' 2" leaving a difference of 1' 7". Height is a gradual slope from the tallest race down until you hit au ra female. After that it jumps off a cliff to slap a lalafell in their big head.

No way in hell is it going to be Rev.
It's an incredibly minor race that looks like the Elezen face nobody uses.
I don't think there's a single person who looked at one and thought "Yes, this is me. This is how I wish to represent myself in this fantasy world."
