Viera Race "Confirmed" for 5.0! Are you gonna change races?

Does the female child viera look anything like the adult Fran we've already seen?

I don't think that picture of what is obviously a child, shown alongside another female child viera which was cropped out, will look anything like a male viera. According to what we've seen so far, they're rugged loners that are tempered by their time surviving in the wilds. The adult concept art is more similar to what I believe we'll see, perhaps with them having more long haired racial hairstyles being why they might be associated with lion manes.

The concept art wasn't of children, that was concept art of actual Viera made way before Heavensward.


Male Viera have never shown up in anything before so we have no real idea of what to expect.
Given Yoshi's comments about male Viera being "too cute" that kind of design is may be what the design team are aiming for with the males.
Probably not an actual child-like form but at least something small.

So the "cute" viera are the same ones that shoot first and ask questions later...no sorry. FFXIV race looks are largely based on lifestyle. Roegadyn look the way they do due to physical labor, Elves and Viera are tall forest dwellers, etc. Lalafell for example, don't have that strain and look the way they do since they are primarily merchants or simple farmers. The "big difference" that occurs at their puberty, based on all the evidence I've seen, may be the males getting hairier and buffer, with a stocky lionlike physique due to the physical strain on their bodies. Most likely they will be around the same height as females, but like the Au Ra, they will be wider and appear phyiscally stronger due to their role in Viera society prior to them leaving to adventure outside the forest.

I don't have a crystal ball so I don't know what they look like. I just figured that, if Viera are truly the last race, they'd want to offer a different male design in comparison to the other races. Viera are most beast-like than the other races and male Viera have never been seen before so the devs have a lot of a leeway on design.
Though I wouldn't take how a race looks to be the entirety of their background. Xaela are supposed to be some of the strongest of the all races but the girls look like teenagers with porcelain skin. For all we know male Viera are just angry midgets throwing sticks at people.
I won't make any definite claims until they're revealed at fanfest, but given how they were initially rejected for being too similar to Miqo'te it sounds like they'll do something different with their design.

So I do have one thing I'm curious about. It seems that A LOT of people in English speaking areas (or at least the ones that use the English forums and that one subreddit) want male Viera. I wonder how people in Japan and other regions feel. I know they mentioned that Viera were popular worldwide, but I'm curious as to how many folks want bunny boys. And of those that do, I wonder what they'd want them to look like.

The only notable female Au Ra have been a ninja, archer, and a mage. Outside of that there is much room for variety but from what I've seen in Stormblood Xaela females don't really take up roles that place excessive amounts of physical strain on them, unlike the males we've seen. They are the gatherers while males serve as hunters/defenders.

In FFXIV gender roles are a large factor in what the races look like. Viera males, Au ra males, Roegadyn males=all confrontational and associated with high physical demands. Viera and Roegadyn females are also fierce and thus they also have a strong physique. Both male and female Lalafells lead fairly tranquil lives, so both of them reflect this. Who knows, maybe the Rava Viera will be tall and strong like Fran, but the Veera Viera will be smaller and paler like the Feol Viera. Other than that I don't see how else they could add cutesy Viera.

I definitely want male and female viera to be added in the game, but I would personally prefer playing a more masculine/rugged looking viera male as opposed to a more feminine looking one. If I wanted to play a cute feminine character, I would play a female and not male.

One of the other concept art for male viera showed them as looking pretty large and muscular. Once we saw that they have Fran I altered my own character to show what I am hoping the male counterpart looks like. Personally I'm hoping to get something like the female elezen and male highlander frames as the basis of the size and builds for the two sexes. I'll be disappointed if what we actually get is basically Miquotes with different ears.

It would be pretty funny if the big ones are the females and the small ones are the males, or something like that. I wouldn't be averse to playing a male if they looked big, and strong, but not too big.
