it doesn't affect lvl at all, and it resets your main questline completely. (you can't choose to go back to a certain point its flat lvl 1 story) there is only alittle info on it from the fanfest LL

if it works like yoshi p described a story reset would have to work years ago.

yes you have to recomplete it to do current content, and it will also reset any trials/dungeons related to MSQ due to the switched are contented and can't be separated due to technical difficulties.

BUT that is only if it works how yoshi p stated from interviews years ago.

I'm guessing that that's not the case. New Game + quests are probably just like for like copies of the original quests, it's the easiest way I can think of to do it.

If it's technically a new quest chain you don't have to change any underlying code, no worries about locking people out of stuff, can mess with quest rewards without affecting the original stuff, etc.

I would assume the "easiest" way to do it would be to reset all the quest complete flags - sending you back to the start of the story with everything undone. Having to duplicate every single quest sounds like it would be a lot more complicated on their end.

If it does simply reset everything, I would imagine you might still have access via teleport to expansion areas (so you could still go on hunts and things), since the only thing gating you from those locations the first time around is that the gatekeeps (across the Steps of Faith and Baelsar's Wall) won't let you through.

And if resetting everything sounds like a poor way of doing it, it's possible that they know that but it's they only way they can do it, and that's why they've been hesitant to do it. But people keep asking, so it's better to implement this imperfect-but-doable way for those who want to use it, than to continue to refuse altogether.

It might technically be the easiest way of doing it for them, but doing so turns a potentially rather neat feature into something that's basically pointless. That and I can't see them making New Game + a reliable way to get free fantasias, but if they just reset the flags that's what will happen as it's a quest reward at one point.

You figure out a way to make one exception, and you may as well apply it to everything that could use one. Anything less frankly just comes across as laziness.

Edit: also, I wouldn't say duplicating the quests is complicated, they can clearly implement new quest chains easy enough, that's all this would be, a very long "new" quest chain. Except instead of writing it and making new cutscenes, etc. they're literally just copy/pasting across from existing quests.

Incredibly tedious to do maybe, feel for the poor guy that hypothetically gets lumbered with that job, but nothing about it seems complicated as such.
