MSQ again. Let's see, two things.


The parley scene was great at first, but I find myself disapoitned by Varis' ultimate goal. Does he really think that doing what the ascians want will leave them in a position to be destroyed by this 'restored' humanity? Does he have any reason to believe they're telling the truth? Does he not realize that six calamities down the line both he and his empire are not likely to exist at all, given the usual long length of time between umbral and astral eras? As I recall Eorzea was only saved from a prolonged Umbral era because of Louis doing...something...in coils? I forget what exactly. He started out strong but lost points from me by the end and I worry it's another matter of SE wanting to make sure people don't identify with him too much like with Gaius in ARR. Is he not aware that not so long ago Elidibus aided Ilberd in summoning Shinryu which, if things had gone a little differently, would have had a dragon rampaging across the Empire? I don't get why he trusts the ascians AT ALL.

Second, where is Elf Zenos at? He was teased a the end of 4.2 and he repaired a flying machine and then just...hasn't been seen or teased again? I guess they're saving him for part 2? In my headcannon I like to pretend he never attuned to an aetheryte and just keeps flying back and forth from Eorzea to Doma trying to track the WOL down as we teleport between continients for msq quests.
