    I do love me some Lovecraft! Sadly, the Mindflayer isn't originally Final Fantasy, it came about in one of the early editions of Dungeons&Dragons, and of course, D&D was heavily inspired by Cthulu for the design.

    indeed they did, but a majority of FF creatures and lore are inspired by real-world mythology. Shiva, Ragnarok, Excalibur.. Goblins! To name a few
