I was in a Suzaku EX farm party as a DRK where the WHM party leader did not use a single regen at all, though she did use Medica II. The Astrologian healer did more of the healing and did quite a bit of dps moves too (wonderful balance to say the least.) As a result, I had to stay in tank stance for quite a while just to stay alive. We won against Suzaku, but I left the farm party immediately after.

I rarely post in this thread, thankfully enough, as bad experiences are pretty wide and between for me. But something amusing did happen in my venture into Shisui while levelling Machinist.

Loaded in, and saw that the other DPS was a machinist as well. Nothin' wrong with that. Then I noticed something. 11k health. Considering I was a level below her and had 21k from my subpar gear at the time, I knew something was definitely up. Low and behold, she was wearing NQ Level 50 gear you can just buy from the vendors in Ishgard.

As predicted, it took incredibly long for us to take stuff down. Nothing impossible to work with, but slow enough that we asked her about her gear. No response. Tried offering advice that she could buy some gear at a vendor. No response there either. The tank eventually got fed up and vote dismissed her at the first boss, where she was quickly replaced by another Machinist who was properly geared. The healer left after them so I could only suppose the two were premade. Following there, the run went incredibly smoothly once a healer quickly popped in, so all's well ends well.

...Oh, and the kicker? The undergeared Machinist was a mentor.

I run into this quite a bit when I have WHMs as cohealers (in any content, not just Suzaku) - they seem to be allergic to Regen, but spam Medica II the way I spam Malefic III. The worst one I've ever had though was in a Suzaku group a couple days ago. I've had pretty decent cohealers up until then (with a few exceptions), but this WHM I had this time was awful. They literally did nothing in terms of healing; and you couldn't even say that they were going balls to the wall in DPS either; they almost got outDPS'd by the melee lb3.

They used Regen 4 times in the one kill we managed (1 of which on a DPS, 3 on one tank, none on the other tank), Medica II a handful of times, a few Cure Is and Cure IIs, Benediction once, and Tetra once (in a 9 minute kill!!). Meanwhile, I had more casts of Earthly Star and Aspected Helios than their total healing casts combined (and 16 casts of Benefic II, ~20 of Aspected Benefic). I had double their HPS and DPS (as a Noct AST), and the best part is they tried to accuse me of not healing when we wiped during the second pull at 15% (in which they had no casts of Regen and healed with Medica II almost exclusively - and only 1 Tetra again!).

I checked the Site That Must Not Be Named on both the clear and the wipe - on the wipe I had 99 healing lol. ON A NOCT AST AGAINST A WHM. But, of course, I wasn't healing.

So I am leveling my second characters jobs to 70, since I have everything to 70 on my main already. I have her BRD, WAR, AST and DRG done and I picked WHM next, I'm hoping to get them all done before Shadow Bringers.

I got to 47 earlier and saved the Aurum Vale runs for after work. I get home and start them.

The first runs go nearly perfectly. Maybe one death, but the tanks pull mostly cleanly. The second is a little rough, everyone else is a green leaf and they pull extra stuff on accident, the tank seems to have a bit trouble with aggro, but it's doable.

Third run, we get to the first room, kill the toad stools to the right, run to the ones on the left. The Nix is turned around. Three of us, the DRK, NIN and me all huddle in the safe area away from the mobs. The BLM sits behind the Nix. I notice this a little too late, and right as I rescue pull the BLM to us, the Nix turns around and pulls them right back.

Now instead of running to us, away from the mobs, the BLM proceeds to face pull the other Nix, the flowers, and the wasp.

Everyone dies, one. by. one. Except me.

I'm not one of those people that groans when they see AV. I like it because you have to actually use your brain and think about pulls, something that I sorely miss about tanking in this game.

But at this moment even I'm like. "Yup, just another day in AV."

I run back to spawn, in hopes of meeting the tank there with the mobs. but everyone just LAYS THERE. So I tell them to return. Finally the tank does, but they don't take the mobs off of me, they pick up ONE. ONE MOB. and let the rest kill me and reset.

I grumble in the chat "So much for not letting them reset."

Whatever. We go back through and there are less mobs. We did manage to pick off a few. I walk by the flowers, and tell everyone else to walk too.

Sure enough the BLM bringing up the tail end, jumping around pulls the wasps and the sole remaining flower.

I type "..." in the chat and the NIN says "everyone was walking" but no they were not, I watched the BLM dancing around, so I simply say "If everyone was walking, they wouldn't aggro."

    Can it get worst?

    YES.

Basically I end up duoing the boss with the tank. Whom pulls the boss, faces it at the DPS. The dps don't move behind it and end up just eating the cleave. The tank gets up to 5 stacks at a time, and I'm dry on MP before we're even at 50%. I get the NIN back up but they die again, and I just finish it with the DRK.

I am the type that will struggle till the end, I don't like reseting, and I probably should have just wiped and rage quit there. But I was so close to 50. This is the last run I need. I SOMEHOW healed through it. The DRK praises my healing. and I just wanna wallow in salt. but I don't say anything and continue.

The next few rooms go ok. The dark stops and gets confused. "I don't remember where to go..."

It's the room before Coincounter... There is only ONE WAY TO GO....

I put up the A waymark after they pull the wasps and the group to the right. They pull the group at the door, and get very close to the group on the left. I notice they're trying to stay away from the yellow bile, but like... to do it, they're skirting near the other group. So I run around the bile, away from the unpulled group and rescue the tank to the door.

Everyone gets nice and close away from the extra mobs. EXCEPT.

    Did you guess who?

EXCEPT THE BLM. Of course not. We kill the set, and they PULL THE OTHER GROUP.

Whatever... We kill them and then do Coincounter.

The DRK starts the fight in the middle of the room, and then proceeds to spin the boss. And I know this boss turns on it's own, but I've tanked this enough to know that they were the ones spinning it. I politely ask them to stop spinning it, and they listen. No more NIN getting cleaved.

Except when they all decide to eat the swing. The NIN and the BLM die. But you know, whatever... Just another day in Aurum Vale.

We beat it and move on to the next room.

Somehow, despite having pulled the first group into the hall, every mob in that room is pulled. The DRK stands in some AOEs and dies. The DPS had pulled some mobs so the BLM dies, and I just go ahead and run back to the coincounter room cause I know where this is going. I kite the adds until the tank makes it back, and the NIN is right behind me, so I pop a regen on them.

The next sets are not so bad.

Tank eats bad breath in the morbol room.

Little did I know this was a bad omen for later.

I hit 50 and I'm really considering being one of those people. The people that just leave in AV when they hit 50 and leave the group waiting. But I'd had that happen to me before. We're at the end and I can see the white light. We're almost done. I'll stick it out.

We get to the boss. The Tank asks about the mechanics and I clarify. We go in.

I remind the DPS to stay behind the boss, I don't remember if this one cleaves, but, I don't want them getting hit by bad breath either.

But I don't know why I worried about the DPS getting hit by bad breath.

It's the tank that eats EVERY SINGLE ONE.

    I KID YOU NOT.

At the first one I'm pretty passive about it. I tell them to cleanse it by eating the fruit.

They listen, and proceed to eat Bad breath again.

I think it's after the fifth time that I ask them to dodge it.

The BLM speaks up. "You know you can get rid of it with the fruit."

I figure they're talking to the tank, but I'd already told the tank that. Either way I say. "Yes, but if you get hit by every one, we will run out of fruit."

We manage to get through two sets of adds. I holy them down, while healing everyone, but I'm running out of MP faster than I'm regening it.

The third set of morbol seeds spawn, and I notice the dps are not killing them. I can't holy this set because I am low on MP and I am struggling to keep the tank alive with their game of eat the bad breath.

This is right about when I know that we're gonna wipe. The Seedling spawn. The DRK AND THE NIN get hit by bad breath and I am struggling to even cast cure.

I look at the debuff bars and I don't know what to do. The DRK and I both have 9 stacks of the burr debuff from the adds, the DRK and the NIN have bad breath, and there are maybe two fruits left.

There was NOTHING. Nothing I could do.

and I'm not doing that fight again. So I leave.

I slowly turn my head to my BF who looks over, and I think he can see my soul breaking into a million pieces cause he says. "OH"

I don't remember everything that I said, but I do remember shouting. "THAT TANK ATE EVERY SINGLE BAD BREATH."

    >: Then he kissed me on the forehead and said he can taste the salt.

I got the Tsuyo mount, craft mat, weapons and card, so time to move on. Parties in the last day or so have been quite good.

This isn’t an issue in things like 8-mans and Extreme primals. The amount of WHMs that won’t use Regen in Extremes is astounding. With a SCH, I can semi-understand because the Fairy will cast Embrace to act as a regen, but you should still be using it to offset autos and to limit the amount of GCD heals you or your co-healer have to cast (which, in turn, ups efficiency in terms of both casts and MP).

Telling someone to not cast Regen or Medica II pre-pull =/= don’t cast it at all.
