No if anything they need MORE racial gear. What exactly is the point of a race if there's nothing unique about them at all?
Not only that, but having more, but locked gear will increase creativity among people. A lot of people seem to think that having more options means more combinations meaning more creativity. But again and again limitations is what drives truely unique and amazing creative options. This isn't just true to playing dress-up, this is the way for anything.

What I'd like to see is more racial gear, more gender locked gear. Equally distributed for all races of course, but still locked.
Give people more things to wear to rep their choice in race. Give them pieces to work into other sets. Give someone who makes a great looking outfit working with some RSE be the envy of their peers! (drive up those fantasia sales!)
I'm tired of everyone wearing the same piece of glamour every time a new piece Rowena shows off. Give people limits, they'll work around it, and find some nice sets.

I definitely would like to see the different hempen variations made available to all even if they make versions that are of higher levels or something.

I don't mind the racially exclusive starter gear sets, but the hempen set is basically just underwear and at that point I can't fully understand why one race gets as standard looking a piece as a halter top, for instance, and all other races don't. Those, I think should be given to all. It would make more sense.

It's not clothes that define a race though. I can look at your character's portrait and tell that it's a Miqote not because of clothing, but unique racial features. Even if a culture is heavily associated with a specific style of clothing, no magical force prevents people of another culture from wearing that style. I think a lot of the resistance to racially locked gear comes from this. It's not a compelling or immersive way to create diversity. It feels forced and artificial, especially in Eorzea. The majority of the player base probably appreciates racial diversity, or is at least neutral to it, but locking clothes to a race just feels silly. If racial sets were unlocked but difficult to get if they didn't match your character's race, that would be much more acceptable.

Not only that, but having more, but locked gear will increase creativity among people. A lot of people seem to think that having more options means more combinations meaning more creativity. But again and again limitations is what drives truely unique and amazing creative options. This isn't just true to playing dress-up, this is the way for anything.
More options is how you increase creativity. Less options hinders creativity. What makes restrictions look like they increase creativity is that people are forced to work harder to get the same, or possibly even less of a, result as they would have had to if they were given more to work with. Let's consider the current starter gear. Right now you have no options, it's one set per race. There is exactly zero creativity except for dyes. If starter gear was unlocked you would have almost 50,000 1,500 sets to choose from (not counting colors). That's from starter gear alone. Which is better for creativity or uniqueness? Serious question.

That's an extreme example though, fine. When you bring up creativity through restrictions, you're probably thinking of something like everyone avoiding a particular piece of clothing that's unpopular. If this unpopular item was a player's racial clothing they might be forced to wear it and find an outfit that works, right? However if clothing is locked, you're just limiting the amount of sets that the piece can be used in and limiting the number of players that can experiment with the piece. Is that contributing to increased diversity?

Id be fine with racial based gear, hairstyles, and even emotes being unlockables. However, you should have instant and free access to all those things as your starter race, while the rest must be purchased/won via Gold Saucer or something along those lines.

Then you are welcome to disagree, but people who want this are in the majority.
