It’s not like you kill the name of one of the biggest gaming franchises of all time in a day. It’s been a drawn out sickness starting with the watering down of core gameplay and culminating in the cash shop with mini games we see today. You don’t think Bobby Kotick’s infamous "The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games." quote had anything to do with that?
And when WotLK was active everyone complained that it was the death of WoW, the worst expansion in existence. And Cataclysm after that. And Mists after that. And Warlords after that. And Legion after that. And now BfA.

Now that we have the luxury of looking back, it's become apparent to a number of players that Cataclysm, while still a pretty rough spot for WoW, wasn't as bad as we all said it was. Mists and Legion were both objectively good expansions, though like any expansion, they had their flaws. WoW has never been a perfect game, not even in Burning Crusade. Warlords was extremely bad and did drive a lot of people away from the game, and we're still in the midst of BfA though it's not looking too hot, as long as they keep ignoring their customers.

I googled that quote you mentioned since I had somehow never heard of it, but it sounds more to me like someone trying really hard to make a joke and failing. It's also 7 years old.

I see a lot of people complain, from the moment it was introduced, that the cash shop was killing the game. They seem to be doing a real bad job of killing the game with the shop then, as it only has a handful of mounts and minions among a few other things, and they're retiring a bunch of stuff from it now, so they're making it even smaller. What do you mean by mini games?
