I currently don't see the problem with they're scheduling. If you want to see problematic staggered content release try playing WoW. They released a content patch I think 2-ish weeks ago and the raid content that comes with it doesn't launch until middle of next month (January).

If XIV content starts getting staggered like that.. then I'll take issue with it.

But content does get staggered like that......

Our patch comes out January and their "big hitters" like Eureka doesn't come out till March. That's a 2 month gap between Launch Date and it's release, just because you like it or not doesn't mean that we don't suffer the same thing. Especially with how quickly the content will be consumed come week 1 of the patch.

Didn't ppl used to complain everything came out at once and there was too much to do all the sudden and then it was all over and done too quickly?

    Why yes, yes they did.

The argument is less about everything coming out at once and more about how little longevity the content in of itself has. The iLvl issue setup will always bring about this situation on top of the consumption rate of players and the biggest issue is Yoshida has disregarded and plained out ignored the issue all together to leave it as is, this is based on a question from a visit to his JP servers where he told a player that to enjoy past items as glamour instead of giving any kind of thoughts about what could have been done with iLvl. Still thats a topic for another thread.

My argument then would be the level of transparency.

WoW has their PTR (Public Test Realm) where you get to play test the future coming content. The raid is done, it can be released tomorrow and the only thing that may have changed are minor balances.

With XIV we don't know where they are in development. So it could very well be that the stagger exists simply due to where they are in terms of development. So what we get; when we get it, is what's ready while other things are held back for balances and completion.

Then again I think that would just shift the argument to then only announce content that is near ready for release.

Staggering is just a healthier way to release things.
Of all the MMO's I've played FFXIV has the most constant and usually largest content updates
    Ehh...

EQ patched / patches basically once a year and brings more raid content than 14 has every 2 years as well as 6-7 zones with 5-15 instanced group dungeons and tasks.

WoW used to patch a few times an expansion, each with a full raid zone, several one-offs and potentially a dungeon or two.

I cant say we get anywhere near as much content in the same amount of time in 14.

I would by far rather have 1-2 major patches a year and get large chunks of content than 2-3 patches each with 1-2 major sub-patches.

This expansion has suffered by trying to give every patch a .05 tagalong. We've had a few eureka's that have been irrelevant at launch except for "do this so you can do the storyline for the next eureka when its maybe relevant!".

APART FROM ALL THAT, you will STILL get Seiryu, 24 Man Raid, the new dungeon(ok, tied to MSQ but still), the 2 new things for Gold Saucer and the new custom delivery plus tons of quality of live updates RIGHT WHEN 4.5 DROPS. There is literally >no< other game on the market right now that get's updated so frequently and with so much content as FFXIV does.
So when its Wednesday and we did all those things in 4 hours on Tuesday, I guess we can be excited to dogfarm for a week!

I dont know how Custom deliveries (seeing as we cant do deliveries each week for all the people we currently have...) is anyones idea of content.

Yes kind of how Yoshida admitted to BLU being ready but deciding to wait out a week to drop it instead of Patch day. The amount of content is close to or equal to that of Heavensward so all I understand from this post is either a) They are staggering out content to get the most out of it or b) They have somehow gotten worse at making content that is literally not all different from Heavensward's content and now require more time to make it. Either way unless we were talking about an expansion that decided to go back into the 2.X quantity and not the HW quantity the argument would never be in their favor.
