FF14's microtransactions have always been a peeve for me with the game.

I mean, I enjoy ff14 and I strongly disagree with the whole attacking other players for buying these items, they're fully entitled to buy what they like. I'd be willing to buy the occasional item to show support for a game I like. But I dislike that they stuff so many things in there, on top of a sub and on top of additional retainer fees. It's unnecessary.

Currently if you open the mogstation, there are 420 items in there in total. We might be looking at 500 by Shadowbringers and 1000 in a few years. I came from WoW where the total items in the cash shop haven't reached 100 in 14 years, my bank space and alts are free and I can buy everything with ingame gold. FF14's a better game than WoW, but the cash shop isn't a positive feature.

I get that they're a business, but you can over-do it. It's the game itself that draws customers in, not microtransactions. A lot of games are doing badly financially lately due to the misconception that microtransactions are the future. If you lose focus on the main product, you have less customers to buy all those fancy fluff items. Making the game as appealing as possible should always be the main priority if they want profit and ff14 could do with plenty more polish.

Most of said items are seasonal items, which many people will never have to buy, dyes (which are all obtainable in game), and koran/china outfits which were paid in their countries of origin as well.

There are a relatively tiny amount of actual mogstation exclusive items.
