There is this vague expectation because it was said in fanfest about "multiple" jobs come ShB. If there would be only two, why they would go for the word multiple, since it represents usually more?
So, if we really gonna get 3 jobs, I suppose they'll follow the HW pattern with a healer, a tank and a dps, possibly a supportive type of dps to join MCH and BRD on that niche?

Well said. Even as recent as Dissidia gunblades worked the same way. Squall would use the shot at close range.

This is not FFVIII. XIV has its own type of Gunblades...as do XIII, by the way.

Others, including Regula, Nero (though not recently) and Gaius (presumed dead story wise) seem have some fancier gear.

I never said otherwise. In fact, I did say there were different types of gunblades. All of them have ranged capabilities, which can likely be used at different ranges. Still though, FF VIII's gunblade would be a good starting point for a Tank class. Thancred's outfit and gunblade both resemble the FF VIII style.
