This always makes me laugh pretty good when people say THIS is the proof of time skip. XD

You know I was wondering this so I went into character creator and...that's legit the default derplander face if you don't make any changes other than hair and eye color. He also has a special hair style that we currently don't have. So...maybe we're getting more facial hair AND hair style options?

Up to this point, yes he's literally been the generic Midlander model. See: Arbert's character data. Default height, default muscle tone, all the face settings left at #1.You know I was wondering this so I went into character creator and...that's legit the default derplander face if you don't make any changes other than hair and eye color. But it's also possible that in this case it's a unique modelled face based on the default settings, rather than being straight from the character creator like Arbert is.
If so (or possibly the reason for doing so), the beard is probably part of the unique model, rather than a new option available to players.
It's also occurred to me that I think the reason why there are such limited beard options, and never tied to hairstyles, is that they'd have to be programmed to change shape along with the different face and jaw options - but hairstyles seem to be a separate element with a fixed shape, so a beard attached to it probably can't be made to fit. You could make it look good with one exact face shape, but then it might be left floating above the face or inside it for anything else.
I'd say there's a good chance of us getting the hairstyle, minus beard, when Shadowbringers releases - since we got the hairstyles from his monk and samurai costumes with Stormblood.
I would just like more facial feature in general l so yea bring on the beards.

Well, I was comparing it to the shot of the in game derplander. Seems to be the same nose, jaw, mouth, eye shape, eyebrows, as the default setting. Allow me to demonstrate with a gif that hopefully runs at the correct speed...
Only change in position is the nose and mouth, and when I trace the default ones and move it to adjust for potential differences in angle, the shape and size remain the same. The only change I made was hair and eye color (original derplander is a fawn brown with greenish eyes).
So as far as I can tell, that is default derplander with a fancy new beard and hair. Also, you're right in that they'd have to map the facial hair to each jaw/face shape. Definitely more time intensive and possibly adds a lot of load to the server.
Yeah, it looks to the be the same model. One of the reasons people have been so passionate about the idea of adding more facial customisation options is because even changing one thing about a character's face can make a huge difference. As someone who has very little interest in playing a Viera come 5.0, I would love to see the existing playable races get some tweaks.
Yes I know that the old one was just default face but this one looks different imo. It could of course simply be the beard and hair (and Lightning) but somehow when I was watching the trailer I kinda was surprised that he feels so different. (I saw your post but somehow it still feels different, maybe its truly just the angle. I mean when I watch the older 4.4 or 4.3 trailers his nose also looks a bit different but again that could just be the angle)You know I was wondering this so I went into character creator and...that's legit the default derplander face if you don't make any changes other than hair and eye color. Well I at least hope that males will get the beard.
