Is it wrong to run Castrum Abania as a tank at ilvl 272

Okay, so while I generally agree there's no need to be rude to people who are undergeared, especially when capable of clearing the content, nobody in this thread is asking for top of the line penta melded gear. I say this as someone who has leveled most of their alts and by the time of reaching abania still had a pretty big chunk of augmented shire. It's not hard even if you're leveling pretty much entirely through roulettes (like I did) to snag at least a few upgrades.

It's also not "hard" to just do the dungeon in i270 gear either. If it was, you'd think I would have felt inadequate in the process of leveling all my jobs through Abania.

That is why I said practicable, let us keep things within a realistic scope. Walking to an NPC and spending some gil to buy gear is a fair baseline.

Do you like spending a 6-digit score of gil for extremely temporary, unnecessary gear that will just get junked after a couple dungeon runs? I guess some people do, but I don't. I prefer making money, not throwing it around willy-nilly.

Also, what's "unpractical" about pentamelded level 20 gear? You're using lower level materia so the melds are easier, and the materia is way cheaper to boot. Not bothering with it just shows plain laziness.

Thing is don't quests provide HQ armor as rewards, and if you took the money over the gear thankfully you have the money. No one is asking for BiS or perfect play when it comes to dungeons. I have not leveled in up through the story in a bit, but from what I recall 200k was a drop in the bucket since this game does throw gil at you as you level up through the expansions. Or maybe instead of buying the gear just take the gear as the quest reward and use it instead of selling it? All I am saying is we should respect one another more, coming into a dungeon with the best gear that you could reasonable acquire be it through quest rewards or an NPC is in the same boat as making sure you have done your job quests and your gear is repaired for me that is, not sure where you fall in terms of those things.

Why are you taking this to such an extreme? Also if a level 20 had the means provided by the game to pentameld and if it took little to no additional effort then sure that could be the new baseline. :P Truth be told I did not even know you could pentameld level 20 gear. I will look into that when I am leveling my next alt. Either way not a 100% certain if you are mocking me or not with your example since I have clearly stated I never expect a player to have BiS gear, and wouldn't pentamelded level 20 gear be BiS for a level 20 so your example does not even fit within the situation I painted.

I suppose that depends on the server you play on.

For Coeurl, materia I is selling for 5k to 20k gil each due to low supply and high demand for the ARR relic weapon quest. Trying to meld level 20 gear is going to end up costing you as much if not more than that level 68 gear you refuse to buy.

You're most definitely trying to compare to a situation that's not remotely equivalent, regardless, and you know it.

How about...you literally can't? At level 20 you haven't been able to learn advanced melding and no piece of lv20 gear has five materia slots so...you literally can't. Now, if you want to talk about fully melding gear while leveling...yeah, I do that.
