Are there any lore websites about their culture?

Garlond? Don't you mean Garlemald (Garlond is Cid's surname, not the name of the country he came from )? There is a bit on the main FFXIV website about the Empire, but the Encylopedia Eorzea would undoubtebly have more info about Garlemald and their culture and origins.

Theodric and Lauront on this forum know much more about the Empire than I do (as they're also Garlean fans) so they'd be the best ones to post about this topic (along with Anonymoose, who is the community's undoubted loremaster).

You could also try the FF Wiki for info (specifically, here), but their info is often either incomplete, inaccurate, or out of date (if not outright wrong), so take much of what is listed there with a grain of salt.

Do you think we'd be doing them a favor or a disservice to start leaving citation needed tags on every dubious claim? It's such a tragedy for the preservation of Final Fantasy Online lore that it takes nothing to add any random thing that pops into your head, but if anyone tries to remove it, the edit is reverted and replaced with a demand to prove it's not true. Why is proving the negative the standard!?

The Empire of "Garlea" is especially not faring well over there.
