Too bad that if you took away their weapon, most people in the game wouldn't "look like" their jobs already.Leave it, A red mage should look like a red mage, Paladin should not look like a red mage, or black mage, a dragoon etc,

SE: Our game, no thanks.
They've been pretty adamant about it.
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

It was already attempted. Someone started a thread a little ways back with this exact intent, and quoted Yoshi's statement asking for sets they would like to see open up to other roles. It failed, and turned into just another thread like this one, with many demanding restrictions to be lifted. There was a handful of responses in the multi-page thread that actually gave Yoshi and the OP what they were looking for.Which seems to be the direction that Yoshi P is going anyway. So rather than making threads asking for something that they are apparently already in the process of doing, why not start some sort of "master thread" for the popular items you would like them to prioritize unlocking?
In a way, I'm glad the thread turned out that way. I don't like that statement from Yoshi. It sounds promising and maybe I am being skeptical, but I don't like the idea of just recoloring existing sets and giving them to other roles. In ARR, gear was so diverse and unique. There was still some recoloring but nowhere near the extent we see now. This is where SB has been the biggest disappointment for me.
Would love to see the glamours unlocked, with the AF gear staying job exclusive.
Right, and a Drk should look like a gold saucer attendant, a Whm look like a Moogle, a Samurai look like a Chocobo, a Ninja look like Odin in plate gear and a Warrior should run around in swimwear. Nothing stopping a White mage dying a set jet black and wearing a tall hat and a Black Mage dying their set white and throwing on a glowing white staff.
Clearly the game has a very delicate sense of immersion they must maintain...

I would actually be more inclined to believe that FFXI got a glamour system because it's an mmo thing, not a FFXIV thing. The FFXI rebuttals are around because so is the demand to add concepts from that game into this one. The here and now players want something fresh, not reused content from an MMO that IS truly in the dark ages. It's because the whole reason FFXI even had a glamour system instituted is because this game has one. And that game improved upon it by allowing us to actually use any of the gear we had available to wear. What's this game's excuse for remaining in the dark ages? If it's the "immersion" argument, that's already long gone with the swimsuits.
I'm tired of the "this isn't FFXI" rebuttals. The games draw inspiration from each other whether you want to admit to it or not.
I would also say that it's the FF franchise inspires the content of this game. There's a lot of fan service in this game that play homage to previous FF titles that have nothing to do with XI. It seems that some fans are so intertwined with XI they can't see outside of its bubble. If someone who has only played FFXIV went and played previous FF titles such a IV, V, and VI, they will find far more similarities to these games than FFXI. Guaranteed.
No, it isn't broken. This lack of understanding is why I wish SE would not give in to player demand when they themselves don't understand the core principles of FF. Final Fantasy is a franchise that has been around longer than FFXI and FFXIV combined. These two games are games belonging to this franchise and concepts like AF gear are inspired from how jobs were designed from their earliest days. See those red triangles on Garnet's robe in my sig? Those are iconic and traditional to WHM. Concepts like role specific gear go back even further than that. But because SE is not a dinosaur, they have released gear that does not identify with any job to be worn by any job. This is not a valid reason by any means to allocate costly and finite resources to lifting previous restrictions. No, there really isn't. The "unique story and aesthetic" is broken either way.
SE has bended enough when it comes to this. AF is already the only thing they have left to keep gear unique, and I guess I shouldn't be surprised that we only get one set per freakin expansion when the devs cater like they have.
That explains why XI never had one for over a decade, until XIV-ARR came around and got theirs, right?I would actually be more inclined to believe that FFXI got a glamour system because it's an mmo thing, not a FFXIV thing.
I don't know if I'd call it a "MMO thing" yet; XIV was the first MMO I ever played that had one and I've played several before. It isn't THAT ubiquitous.
Not guaranteed, because I've played all those games too. Still think it's got the most similarities to XI.It seems that some fans are so intertwined with XI they can't see outside of its bubble. If someone who has only played FFXIV went and played previous FF titles such a IV, V, and VI, they will find far more similarities to these games than FFXI. Guaranteed.
Hell, even the initial 5 playable races, one of the very first things you see in the game when you make a character, are clearly inspired from XI. It doesn't stop there.
So tanks in swimsuits make perfect sense to you, but white and red robes is where you draw the line? Seems odd to me.No, it isn't broken.
As far as I'm concerned, the immersion aspect is already broken, and they have nothing left to lose from just removing the restrictions altogether. Like I said, XI did this and nobody freaked the hell out about it.

Have you taken a few moments to look at the monster models in 14 vs 11? There was dozens of direct copy pastes lol.I would also say that it's the FF franchise inspires the content of this game. XIV literally takes exact same models from XI and pastes them in here. All 5 starter races directly inspired from XI. Hyur is Humes, Miqo is Mithras, Lalas are Tarutaru, Roes are Galkas, Elezen are Elvaans.
So don't kid yourself there is plenty of similarities between XIV and XI in many terms.
Also some of those 50 armors in XIV are taken directly from XI.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNRq1J91ybo Video showing some of the comparisons - and this isn't even all of them. I know the FF franchise has a lot of mob families that carry over between titles, but XIV took a lot of random mobs directly from XI as well.Have you taken a few moments to look at the monster models in 14 vs 11?
