I'm comparing it to player experience and know that they aren't intrinsically connected but inevitably function the same, to provide added income and feed off those who have disposable income and/or have poor monetary decisions. While some things are in a gray area like purchasing retainers, which imo gives an advantage over MB control, retainer ventures and inventory space, this game is making a shift to "player identity" gameplay with even raid gear being limited to bragging rights and glamour.
When glamour or standing out of a crowd becomes the focus on the game and you put items in the mogstation that make you stand out, then I would say that the mogstation does affect your gameplay experience. Not to mention a lot of things are over-priced for no reason. $18 USD for a single glamour set for one character. $7-$10 USD for an emote for one character and the list goes on. I want to support SE and this game but I draw the line at egregious pricing. So yes they are the same thing. They just have different approaches to achieving the same goal which is to feed on whales. The lootboxes just have no monetary ceiling so they are far more dangerous but both are definitely in the same boat. I'm sure people have spent tons on fantasias alone.
I may sound salty but I have a decent amount of common sense to justify my monetary spending so the mogstation to me just looks like another attempt to sell shoddy goods. If you don't believe me then feel free to enjoy your generic HW mount music on your whale mounts or cardboard wings. For those prices you should be getting more than what you have now and honestly people who do buy that stuff really should be demanding more.
TLDR; Microsoft is shifting to a "platform" based Xbox so PC and Xbox are inter-changeable. Then I wonder why even bother with Xbox when PC essentially gives you everything. Access to Xbox exlcusive and FFXIV? They also need to sell way more in Japan because from what I understand Xbox is seen as ugly and very excessive in Japan. A country which enjoys aesthetic and compact, not to mention Japanese are very loyal to Japanese brands from what I heard.
