That's the problem. It isn't possible to let some people skip the cutscenes while still letting others watch them.

Sure it is. Groups did that all the time. You don't need the whole party to complete the dungeon; due to lack of item level cap you barely even need a light party's worth of people to do it.

The other big downfall of the "just watch it at the inn afterwards" mindset is that not only do you get those cutscenes in a disjointed way and without the context or battles between them, it messes with the post-dungeon experience as well.

When you exit the dungeon after your story clear, you go straight into the ending cutscenes - celebrating an event that you just missed out on 90% of because "you can just watch it later". And the credits roll, which should come with a feeling that you've reached the end of the story - but instead it's the equivalent of fast-forwarding over the climax of the movie, watching the credits, and then winding back to watch the parts you skipped. Who would ever do that?

And after the credits? You return to the Waking Sands and are greeted by all your friends. It's not a cutscene, it's live gameplay. There's no way to go back and revisit this scene where everyone is celebrating your accomplishments that you didn't properly experience yet.

And then you're back to the problem that the cutscene-watching newcomer gets no experience of the actual dungeon beyond empty corridors. The cutscenes and the fights together make up the climax of the story.

It also means that people get left behind and incredibly lost in those non-linear dungeons.

I made a job of waiting behind just to make sure newbies weren't left alone - once I'd actually learned the route, which took a while.

I'm glad that can't happen any more.
