This still remains one of the least thought out arguments I've seen. It's stupid. There is no other word for it. This is just a stupid argument.
If people wanted to play the Sims, they would already be doing that. This argument has no footing, no logic, it's just a cheap deflection that adds nothing to the conversation, and goes nowhere.
Could you be any less productive here?

So can everybody else who wants a house and doesn't get one. What is the point of your argument? Playing a different game is not going to make up for already invested time and resources. On top of that, people have their reasons for why they play housing in FFXIV as opposed to the Sims.
This is a problem indeed, and I'm afraid that the FFXIV Team isnt doing anything about it. There's someone that is currently hoarding the Mist right now and owns more than half of a ward. I reported it, but the person is still there. What is worse is that a few of my friends were trying to nab a house and of course, its the waiting game before you can purchase if you are a new at owning a plot. This same person decided to swoop in, out of his/her own comfort ward to buy a house my friend was going to purchase in a different ward location.
How is this happening? Why do you still let it happen?

Because people who had multiple houses spread across alts were grandfathered in when they locked housing to accounts. Until they basically come out and force hoarders to give up multiple plots, nothing will change. This is a problem indeed, and I'm afraid that the FFXIV Team isnt doing anything about it. Fixed it for you.
Taking things away from people who did nothing wrong, especially from people who are on servers that still have tons of housing available would not be the right move. People need to stop complaining about the people who were grandfathered in and the few houses that would add back into the system, and instead need to focus on changes (like instanced housing, expanded apartments w/ possibly more apartments added to the existing buildings if needed on larger servers) that would allow everyone a house.
I don't get how there are so many people in the thread against having their houses taken away when there are people STILL waiting to own their FIRST. Like, honestly there really should be some sort of LIMIT applied to people who have purchased that many plots, grandfathered or otherwise. If SE has to lose a few subs just because SOME people wanna be INSUFFERABLY greedy, who even CARES.
Not sorry about it
Don't @ me
& yes, I have
ONE house
They aren't going to scrap the wards and invest in an entirely new housing system at this point. While unfortunate, it simply isn't realistic, which is why people point to multiple house owners. If they aren't going to implement instance housing, they shouldn't allow you to have sixteen houses. What they have mentioned, is making it so houses become account bound, thus allowing your alts to access them.Fixed it for you.

Now overhauling Apartments would be a good step, but that looks to be going the way of Egi glamours. Regardless, people are focused on both.
Why are people speaking out against players being punished who didnt do anything wrong? Wait, im not poetic enough to properly answer this...I don't get how there are so many people in the thread against having their houses taken away when there are people STILL waiting to own their FIRST. I also have one house, im not even in an FC, and i play on a server that as i type this has like 75 open plots - several of which have never had an owner(hint, its your server). Taking something away that was fairly earned isnt the right move. You wanna ban and delete all the accounts that are involved in RMT(selling AND buying)? That would open up a TON more houses then attacking the few people with grandfathered plots. If they do what you said then how could you ever trust them again? So as someone who is merely insufferable and greedy(rather then insufferably greedy), this would get me to drop my sub too.First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
