This seems unusually pessimistic. You are aware that the Dark Knight quests are consistently some of the best written content in the game, right? If it means more story of that quality, I'm fine with the story putting that at the forefront.I’m gonna be crucified for saying it, but as soon as I saw the ‘warrior of darkness’ expansion trailer I felt kinda disappointed.
I really feel like next expansion is going to be a desperate attempt to cater to people who want a ‘dark edgy storyline’.
Which is fine...if it’s written well. If it’s not, the result will be having the entirety of the storyline just being a bunch of scenes of your character running around looking edgy and doing ‘edgy’ things like not helping people when they could have.
I’m aware that Final Fantasy generally revolves around the idea that light and dark don’t always equate to good and evil. But that doesn’t mean they’ll continue with that in the future. And if such a consideration does exist, it will exist only to justify the player’s new ‘dark edgy behaviour’ (e.g ‘it’s ok that XxEdgelordSephirothxX didn’t help the villagers because he’s working for darkness but dark doesn’t mean evil so it’s ok’.
I’m willing to bet good Gil that there’ll be an ‘Asahi’ type character who always puts your character down so that when you get to their pitiful boss fight you can feel like you’re an edgy badass getting revenge.
