Can we have new AA, other than FXAA? 2019 is coming

FXAA is the worst AA, texture is blurry & 2D
in FFXIV 1.x, we had MSAA, Even it is better than FXAA

I took a minute to try to spot any difference, and even then the only difference I could see was at the left side of the... dome thing. Also dunno what AA even stands for.

Also there are times where wikipedia links have so much Greek in them that they just make things more confusing, and this is one of those times.


I assume aliasing is a bad thing if there is apparently some "anti aliasing" thing in place. Still don't really get what was drastically different in the two images though

Yoshi P already said in an interview (not so long ago) that we shouldn't be hoping on graphical updates.


6.0 will probably have graphical updates along with full PS5 support.

Assuming you're on PC - Go into your Graphics setting in-game, and try turning off FXAA (it should be on by default). You'll notice a sudden increase in jaggedness along the edges of things like your character, other characters, and scenery. Anti-aliasing is what smooths out this jaggedness.

If I'm remembering correctly, consoles don't have an option for FXAA if your settings, but still have some sort of anti-aliasing built in to prevent jaggedness. At least, I believe the PS4 does (I don't think the PS3 did). However, it's been 2+ years since I've played on a console, so I may be misremembering.

I still can't really tell much of a difference in the photos in the OP, other than that one difference I mentioned... which as far as I can tell could simply just be the movement of a cast shadow rather than a result of any settings changes between the two.

I feel as if OP's example isn't the best for those who don't know exactly what to look for. That being said, the difference between the two is minuscule, which is not that great of a thing, since there should be a more visible difference with FXAA versus no FXAA.



However, OP, it's unlikely we'll see graphical updates even for PC only. The developers are very keen to make sure players are all on "equal footing" in terms of graphics, whether they play on a PS4 or on a custom built rig with a 2080ti. I'd feel more keen to build myself a rig if it meant I could have HD graphics, but that's a no-go so I'll just stick with what I have for now.
