Considering the job I would like (Beast Tamer) had pretty much no chance given comments by Yoshi and Summoners state and only got a mention with the introduction of limited jobs, I'd welcome it.Lots of people say "well, if you don't like the direction BLU is going -- don't play it!"
But I'd ask those people -- what if YOUR favorite class were a limited job? Love bard? Sorry, you can only /perform in mini games at the Mih Khetto Amphitheatre while you go out and learn songs from people's orchestrions or something.

As a person who has never played Beast Tamer (or FFXI where I assume it comes from) what would set it aside as a target for a limited class? For a frame of reference the only "pet" class I've enjoyed in a MMO is WoW Hunter - is it similar to that?
Truth be told, my experience with 11 was pretty much my friends trying to get me to play it, then quitting right as I got it, leaving me to stumble around alone with a few weeks before throwing in the towel. From what I've been told its a very pet focused job and I really like those. As for 14, if Summoner is any indication, they don't was a job that focuses so much on the pet aspect which is why they'd make it a limited job.

My preference would have been 4>1>3>2. The job not being in the game yet and there still being a chance of it would be better than what they have announced. There's basically three options for Jobs coming after 4.5:
1. Job getting implemented and shoehorned to fit the mold of Normal Jobs.
2. Job getting implemented with a unique system/gimmick so special that it has to be a Limited Job.
3. Job not getting implemented.
(If you want a 4th option, which would be getting the positives from 1 and 2, you basically have to change the mold itself. Which is not a light thing at all. And at this point you'd probably be better off asking for Final Fantasy XIV-2.)
My point was to say that if option 2 wasn't created, Blue Mage (and every possible future Limited Jobs) could've very well ended up in option 3. I'm not talking about "hoping your job won't be implemented as a limited job", I'm talking about "hoping your job will be implemented at all".
Lots of people are saying that BLU could've existed as a "Normal Job" instead of a "Limited Job". I'm just saying that it could've also very well be nothing at all.
Tl;Dr: Sometimes you have to pick the lesser of two evils.
4. Job getting implemented with a unique system/gimmick so new and engaging that small but thematically significant adjustments are made to the existing roster to benefit similarly and allow for the new job's implementation.
You've forgotten at least one option here.
Fatalism is fun and all, but also fallacious. Uniqueness and integration--the new and the old--are not mutually exclusive except liminally.
I've been unsubbed for a bit now but was looking for a good time to come back and try to convince my friends to as well and try to get ones that have never tried 14 to as well. I was super hyped up on Friday then that was destroyed during the live letter. I feel the whole concept of limited jobs is terrible and "it's too hard" is not a good excuse for things. If it's given a pass here then I fear for the future of the game and that's why I will not resubscribe until there is at least an announcement that the devs will take the time to develop blu into a full job and scrap the limited job idea.
It's so funny that people actually unsub over something like this. Well good luck in whatever MMO you are going to play instead. (Genuinely curious what that is by the way.) By the by? What's the situation like on the other forums? German, French, Japanese?
It's funny that people are using the only real method available to them to show that they do not support a design decision they think is bad for the game?
""Oh no! We're bleeding subs!"
"Well, we better double down and stay the course, instead of addressing any of the concerns these players on the forums, per protocol, made before leaving!"

Yeah I have hopes that Yoshi and his team won't pull an EA/Activision/Blizzard in regards to the feedback whether that's through the forums or unsubs.

I find that interesting, because to me Blue Mage and the Limited Job system actually gives me some hope for FFXIVs future. It shows that the Devs are willing to try something genuinely new (i.e. not just FATEs in an instance), break the mould, and introduce non-standard jobs and combat mechanics that we probably never would have gotten otherwise. And if it goes well, and I hope it will, then maybe the Devs are more willing to break down some of the walls they have built for themselves in the 'main game', and just maybe the future of FFXIV isn't HW version 3, 4, 5 and that every 'new' job isn't just a 16th, 19th, 25th way to do the same duty / raid grind over and over again.I've been unsubbed for a bit now but was looking for a good time to come back and try to convince my friends to as well and try to get ones that have never tried 14 to as well. I can sort of understand that it sucks if you were looking forward to having Blue Mage next to your name full time, but I was kind of looking forward to playing Red Mage until it was revealed to be just another DPS with a heal (was hoping it would have a lot more support abilities, and I hate RNG based rotations)… so yeah, if Blue Mage had been just another standard DPS (though I still think Tank could have been an interesting take), and with the only content announced for 5.0 (so far) being the usual suspects, I doubt I would have held out even until 4.5 (January, really? sigh)
