I am possibly romanticising this way too much, but it seems very possible to me that we can take a dark path without it being morally evil. For example, if we had fought after the Sultana's 'assassination', if we'd taken our righteous rage and wreaked havoc on Ilberd and Lolorito, we'd would have been working for the forces of darkness and chaos against light and order. But in this case Light and order were reprehensible and needed to be held to account. Fray would not have run had he been there. People conflate dark and chaos with evil, and they need not be.
