(Spoiler, Kinda) Gunblade job 'concern'

Wich one ? Last time I checked they used basic auto attack and have actual existing weapon, like spear, sword & shield, rod and bow.

Quite sure that the Garleans in the instanced duty when you find and save Gosetsu and Tsuyu had gunblades. I may try and look for ones more common some other time, it's almost 2AM here.

And "basic auto attack" have nothing to do with this discussion. Gunsword can (and will) have a basic auto attack as well.

During the Crystal Tower end game arc both Cid and Nero were using different sized gunblades prior to the beginning of World of Darkness being unlocked.

Papalymo had plate gauntlets, Yda had plate boots...the Scions' gear doesn't always reflect their classes/jobs the same way the WoL's do. So I wouldn't worry too much about Thancred wearing leather as a tank class. Also as someone else mentioned Thancred was a glad at the start of the ARR msq, and he wasn't wearing any plate at all.

And who knows, maybe glamour prisms are more than just a feature for players and are actually canon?

Even if we set that all aside, Cid used a unique gunblade at least once. So we do have an ally to provide a starting point. There's also the matter of some Machinist weapons already being gunblade models.

They are, and are a key plot point at least twice throughout Stormblood.

As I recall they were being used to set up a fake wall to hide the way into Rhalgar's Reach and were used to replace a Garlean flag with an Ala Mhigan one on one of the bridges to make it look like it had been taken to throw them into chaos for a bit so it could be taken.
No clothing applications of the prisms, but still put to use in other ways.

I'm not sure, but I think that Hildibrands quests have an enemy that takes on various peoples looks and they made it a point that this is not a simple glamour prism trick. But I MAY be remembering wrong.

And yes, that flag change that EusisLandale spoke about is certainly correct as well.

What I try to say is it didn't look that special at those moment, they used it like random sword or gun. To me it was garlemald weapon design more than job potencial. And sorry but it still be, I can't see what it will have that much different from a one-handed paladin with a stun-gun rather than a shield. But hey opinion are like buttcrack, everyone get to have one.

No one is trying to attack your opinion or anything. If the class isn't special to you then it's not, simple as that.

But the part that "it came out of nowhere" is no longer an opinion. On that one part, people can dispute it and do. It did not come out of nowhere. Gunswords are a major thing tied to Garlemald that is visible from the beginning. And we as the Warrior of Light have been constantly taking others strength for ourselves. We became White Mages, even though we shouldn't due to not being Padja- whatever, we became Dragoons even though we're not from Ishgard (or even keen on fighting dragons), we became Ninja even though we're not from Doma. We "collect" jobs from all areas that come into the picture. Why shouldn't we take something from the enemy that is soundly trouncing our allies?!

The gunblades themselves aren't really all that special, true. But the fighting style used is consistently supplemented with magitek abilities, and Thancred can be seen with some nice glowy blue bits on his new look so it's not necessarily as though the gunblades are the sole thing this job will be using.
