The recent DDoS attack on FFXIV servers.

How many servers were affected?

I know goblin was cuz i couldn't log in at the time of the OP post of this thread.

At first I thought it was latency issues until I saw the news on twitter so I wonder if things have been resolved by now and which servers got hit if not all of them

Basically all of them at this point. JP, NA and EU data centers are being hit. I don't like what's going on, but I do admire the tenacity of who's behind it.

Cactuar was affected. Pretty much all of Aether and Primal went down about an hour ago.

They probably aren’t DDoSing the SE’s servers directly, but rather the ISPs that route us to SE’s servers. Think of it as, they haven’t blocked entry to the building (SE’s servers), they’ve just blocked entry on the road leading to the building (the ISPs).

I don't think they care, though they'd likely give you a nonsense reason. Possibly similar to whatever that group is called did with the PSN servers a few years back on Christmas ("we did it so that Sony would work on strengthening their servers to prevent DDoS" or some stupid nonsense like that).

It's really just to be a pain in the neck and maybe make customers angry at SE. S'how I see it, anyway.

Some people just pride themselves on being jerks just because making someone upset is justification enough. Not really anything you could say to change their minds.

Pretty much this. For some of these people the reasoning is irrelevant; they simply get a joy out of getting people upset and that's the only reason they need.

I had minimal issues during the previous DDoS issues (I'd get booted out sometimes but could almost always get straight back in) but last night I couldn't even get it to load the launcher. Lots of timeout errors. The forums were also very slow to load or might only show half a page.

Same here with not being able to load the launcher last night, except I assumed the problem was on my end and spent a whole bunch of time trying all the usual troubleshooting stuff to no avail. I even ended up reinstalling the game. Wooops lol. Wish I had realized this was the issue before making myself crazy. So far today my connection seems to be ok at least.
