[ ]LOST [X]NOT LOST
"There is no hope in stubbornly clinging to the past. It is our duty to face the future and march onward, not retreat inward." -Sovetsky Soyuz, Azur Lane: Snowrealm Peregrination
If we include Before Crisis and Dirge of Cerberus, there were also a Jade Weapon and Omega Weapon in the FFVII universe.
So that makes it 7 weapons. I wonder if they did it to match that FFVII was well the seventh in the series, hmm...

Yeah, it got holed by Sister Ray in passing while it was marching on Midgar, but not before taking out the top floors of Shinra HQ. I think the party fights it for like three turns before it walks away from us.
Oooooh,I remember now.The old broken Ps1 translation just referred to it as "The Weapon" which is why I got confused xD

Much appreciated Theo... and as your fellow FFXII enthusiast, I'll get round to sketching a better one later... I reckon the central tallest one of those three towers (as shown on the Eorzean map) is very likely the imperial palace, so it needs to be done justice. Varis does seem the type of bloke to take those type of things seriously.
I also do remember that the Encyclopedia did mention several members of the royal family having decadent villas outside the capital (page 178), so I'd like to do a speculative sketch on that as well.

Oh believe me, I remember Regula very very well... when Stormblood got released, I remember actually speculating that he might have been one of the faces Elidibus showed to Varis (HERE). During Heavensward, this very chap, as best friends to the Emperor, was one of the reasons several of us here on the lore forums began to suspect that Varis did have a sliver of a good conscience.
Regula is another great example of those honorable Garleans who see the bigger picture and are willing to create fledgling alliances so that all out war can be averted. One only has to look at his resume and underline the excellent job he did getting rid of the corruption within the VIth legion when he took over as Legatus. He's another character that I'm hoping our Echo will allow us to see within Varis' upbringing and past.

I'm echoing the thoughts of Midgar. Probably less smoggy, since I don't recall seeing Garlean tech ever belching smoke. Might just have bad memory though.

Ahhh...
Allow me to explain why I suspect the base area to be "smoggy". Bluefog and Raubahn's Push in Northern Thanalan have a perpetual bluish fog that has polluted their atmosphere due to the empire's mining of cereleum deposits in that area; and it's not so much as the Garlean tech themselves but the extraction of the Cereluem that causes the fog. Hence, the area's name Bluefog. Page 146 of the Encyclopedia explains that:
"Cereleum is a highly unstable substance and will begin to evapourate when in contact with air, resulting in the bluish haze from which the area earns its name."
From this, I inferred that the cereluem deposits around Garlemald might (emphasis on the word "might") be one of the causes of the clouds we see on the Eorzean map. Another obvious reason would be that it gave the lore team a brilliant method of "hiding" most regions of the Garlean Empire until 5.0.
