Suggestion: Option to replay MSQ (not just cs's)

It would be really cool if we could have an option to replay the MSQ (not just the cut scenes but the quests themselves). This would be purely for nostalgia reasons and doesnt need to include any form of reward as the reward is the story itself.

Just a suggestion, I know you can play a new character but I dont want to do EVERYTHING all over. I just want to enjoy the MSQ over and over when I feel froggy

I don't know that it would be feasible to let you redo any individual quest.

But I DO wish you could redo solo instance fights at least. There are a few I'd love to go back and do without leveling a new character, like the lvl 70 paladin fight, the Warriors of Darkness fight, etc. I believe they already sync you down if you outlevel it already, and really there wouldn't be a concern of these being too easy to go back to anyway because you already did it once to progress and finish the quest.

It has already been asked, and the best answer Yoshida had was "create a new character".

But yeah, I understand your feeling, for some reason I skipped some quest story I regret now, and the only option to have the full story is to do it with another character (blame's mine I know but still)

"create a new character". +1 to this. It was explained that when you complete quests, certain "flags" where applied to your character, that affect your character and your game world moving forward. This made it impossible to recreate old scenario's because the old flag data was not stored and the new flag data was inconsistent with generating your MSQ instance.

Basically it is impossible to replay with the current game engine, as the game doesn't know how your character was way back when and level sync isn't the only issue.

Why would it need to know how our character was back then? People don't complain that watching cutscenes doesnt' reflect what your character was back then. They have syncing in place as is for the solo instances. I don't see any reason why they couldn't redo a solo instance fight with your current character level synced. And it doesn't really matter if you're OP when replaying it, it's not like there's a critical need to balance it.

As mentioned it's not as simple as level sync. You can already level your way to max level and then play a MSQ instance dozens of levels below you and still be level synced. Usually if it requires a change to the game engine, they're unlikely to do it and they mentioned MSQ instances are not coded the same as DF instances. Their response is better but I cannot for the life of me find it as this question has been asked again and again.

I'd love to see this, for both the MSQ and class/job quests... maybe even for some of the ongoing side-story quests as well. (Of course, I'm assuming we could only have one "quest replay" active at a time.)

This whole argument amounts to saying that it's not in the game now. Well, obviously we know that. If it were already in the game we wouldn't be asking for it to be added. We're asking for a new feature that doesn't use those flags in quite the same way the current quests do. It would use them for verifying that we've already completed the quest we want to go "back" to. And then for details like when dialog will differ based on what other quests you've completed, it'll use our current flags, so what they used to be is irrelevant. But the flags marking how far through the quest we've gotten will be replaced with new flags in the "quest replay" feature we're asking for, and that would take care of things like ensuring the NPCs we need to deal with are where we need them for that quest. It doesn't need a whole new game engine, but it does need a new set of quest flags.

Agreed. There were some parts of the 2.0 story I liked but it's way to long for me to feel even a little excited about replaying it. I loved Heavensward though, even more so than Stormblood.
