For me, I'm just baffled that they have a myriad of features in this game that gets neglected in favor of the treadmill. I get it, it safe to so the same thing all over again with little additions here and there but I don't understand how it is risky to develop things that are already in the game further.

Case-in-point, even Yoshida in his latest Gamescom interview said he's tired of the repetitive stale nature of GCs and he plans to do something. It just sucks that it took him this long to finally see what the playerbase sees about it.

Tell your friends not to delete their characters . Take a break. They'll be back probably on March 2019, when the next expansion comes out .

Every game has issues. FFXIV's is not that bad .

I am surprised your friend lasted this long because it sounds like all he did was crafting and gathering and rarely played any PvE content and definitely not the more high end and exciting ones. He's been 'playing the game wrong' this entire time and no wonder he's tired of it lol

What's funny is that he said in a recent email interview with GamesRadar that he doesn't just view other games but all forms of entertainment as competition.
Which is it Yoshi P? :B

As someone who isn't really interested in savage raiding, I ran out of things to do 2 days into the patch. I wish there were more things to do, but as of today I only login to do my roulettes and then logout. At the very least they should've released Pyros alongside everything else, even if Eureka itself is pretty bad overall.

These are businesses; So they look at how they have millions of recurring users, then they say that they must be doing something right.

It doesn't really matter why your friend quit, they don't care.

If this is like the World of Warcraft forums, and it seems even MORE SO here, an incredibly small percentage of players post on the forums. So they are just unlikely to take a lot of stock in what they say. Being used to the Wow general forum, it seems like the page hardly changes here.

As far as the user posting who has a sig, evidently quoting promises made about housing (which obviously did not come true), I can one up you by quite a wide margin:

    posted 2004-07-15

Katricia: "Guild Halls will most likely not be implemented before World of Warcraft is released. They are very similar to Player Housing (which also will not make the release).

Both Player Housing and Guild Halls will be implemented as soon as possible after release.

I have no information available regarding the functions of either Guild Halls or Player Housing. ~Kat "

Katricia: Player housing will not be available until after World of Warcraft has been released. Our plan is to add player housing in a future live update or expansion. Our current idea (which could change) is to extend the cities to have player housing neighborhoods. For example, in the canal area of Stormwind players can see a blue instance portal behind a large portcullis; this is the entrance to the player housing neighborhood in Stormwind.

    FYI:

Wow has never had player "housing." Her quote was actually one of the reasons I originally bought Wow, over 14 years ago (after being in several beta phases.) I mean, if a BLUE NAME comes and says stuff like that you pretty much believe it, right?

Much later on they added "Garrisons", of course, which were widely regarded as a failure (mainly by Blizzard themselves, ironically, since they kept players hanging around in the Garrison instead of grouping as much.) Of course, these were a HUGE CASH flow for players; I missed that, unfortunately, not playing for much of Draenor and coming back for Legion.

Sure, and this only works for people who don't own a house. I'd love more then anything to drop my sub right now in XIV and go play something else or just take a break for awhile, but I'm not allowed to. Wait...let me rephrase that... I'm only allowed to play a game for 30 days (for me I play more sub games then I do f2p or consoles) before I have to come back to dried up content that repeat the same over and over or make it worse (Pagos) just to save my house from the demo timer. It not worth my time playing one game for only 30 days, then switch back to this one. Not worth me paying for two subs when housing isn't based off just keeping my sub active. If I want to take a break from a game, it means I don't want to even login to it. It not taking a break if I have to login every so many days just to save a piece of content that shouldn't be taken away to begin with.

I'm sure at some point I'll be joining the ranks of quitting for a long time also and not caring about housing anymore. It not like it going to get better. That my faith in SE and Yoshi running XIV.

Maybe to "black and white" but for me they clearly went on the "bad" side. . .

Things did change to a side, it can change back

i have many things to say against the game, but mainly i can say "always same thing, never any small part of innovation, fear of the smallest risk" and "cash shop in subscription MMORPG" (and here ... 1200 euros, + retainers + premium app... ...)
But i always hope for SE and Yoshida (and his team) to finally take a better path... else i would already leave
Not=now, was a typo, opps. Yes you are right, I agree, and the full point of this thread.

I'll just have my friend reply to this quote directly, since we both take issue in saying they played "wrong":

I did not know stating my savage was important, because it is not to me. It gets old meeting people that do not know basic rotations hopping to static/ fc/ scheduling issues, I wanted keep away from the problems players make on themselves. I wanted purely focus on the game itself. I did forget one important aspect to savage and endgame in general. Why do it when it is going ot be nerfed in 3-6 months? Why put your self though all that socal drama when it is not going to matter? This was a bit implied by my friends words in the last bit of the first post:

Now it feels pointless. Even if they had achievements like that now, or even doing 4.4 crafting, it wears off fast since I know it will just be easier to get/and or made pointless in a few months. Going back to my other friend that is quitting (not the one that made the post above) goes back to run escape and massive grinds for some really low drop rate minion, despite it being 10 years old. Why? Because it still has meaning, they know it will not be nerfed in 3 months.
It holds no meaning, I do not care. I liked helping people though crafting, and that "first run challenge" only lasts a day. After 4.4, 3 days after, it was already dated, just by luck my 6 month sub expired 2 weeks after 4.4. I played it enough to know where it is going to go, same as 4.3, 4.2, so on.

PvE content was the thing that drove me to quit, not as much as crafting. I got tired of that just recently when it was glaring clear all they did was (and likely going to) reskin HW completely, in gathering, crafting, PvE, and gutted PvP. The markets not being well made, having more hand me gear, only drives down crafting gear demand further. 3.4 was the highlight for me as far as this game went, but that does not mean I want 3.4 clones and be played again as 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, and 4.4.

My story was there to explain why i did "last this long" HW was not an exact clone of ARR, and you did have palace of the dead and temp lasting diadem. I did not expect them to completely clone HW and call it "stromblood" however, esp when you have that quote I referenced that my friend here posting for me referenced later for a post. "Y: It is the second expansion pack, and if we were to do the same thing all over again, a lot of people would get tired of it."

So I had 3.3 cloned and repackaged as "4.3", I had my peak enjoyment of 3.4 rebranded into 4.4. 3.4 lasted months for me, because I experienced 3.4 and such a long time doing so, 4.4 only lasted a week, and it doesn't help that markets for sales is less attractive.

I wasn't expecting this type of discourse in an 'I'm quitting thread'...

I agree with several of the topics brought up in this discussion.

I can't help but feel SE isn't investing the profits from FFXIV back into FFXIV as much as they should.

There's also the common issue of 'server limitations'.
There's way too much backend stuff that seems to be holding the game back from what it could be. (Perhaps the devs aren't getting enough budget to invest into fixing things like this...)

I personally haven't fallen prey to the burnout of the treadmill, I don't care if I am slower than others.
I just play when I feel like playing, and don't try to 'keep up' with the gear grind.
