Its currently effecting all 3 datacenter locations. In that case, there isn't much SE can do about it. This isn't a server issue.

Not true. EU - as always - is affected more than the other Data Centers. I know because I have characters on both EU and NA and haven't crashed on NA once. We need to stop defending SE all the time, especially when it comes to the EU DC cause you can tell that they don't care about EU players at all -_-

Well they care about our money - but that's no different from any company. Not true. EU - as always - is affected more than the other Data Centers. I play on Chaos and there have been noticeably worse things happening (outside of the usual rubber banding and weirdness I assume everyone experiences due to the generally bad servers).
Was in a full Pagos server last week and half the groups kept DCing - we kept losing half the server and watched people fall in and out and experienced massive lag.
What is odd is that it didn't effect me at all - over the course of what I gather is DDosing I didn't experience any problems personally.
What I would love to know is how it all works server-wise... Why was i unaffected but others were? Genuinely interested in how all this works.

Because its like a road. There are many path's from different countries to the datacenter. One road gets attacked by the DDOS attack, but another may still be open letting traffic through. It is not the server itself having issues usually. If that was the case then no one would be able to connect in most cases. (this is also why its usually the SAME people having the issues repeatedly.)Well they care about our money - but that's no different from any company.

Usually its people being routed through the Level3 nodes that have the most issues. This company was also the cause of all the issues the servers had when they were hosted in NA, and they also own a lot of the internet backbone worldwide.

Thanks for the reply. So Level3 is the hosting server - a separate company that handles the traffic? And there's more than one being used here?
I feel I should really know all this - it's amazing how much I just take the internet for granted and live in blissful ignorance >.<

The problem is that at least Chaos has on going problems since 4.1. Its just that its much worse right now but it was never a stable server for quite some months now. So there seems to be a problem because before that one patch it was mostly fine.

while i havent experienced the current issue's due to being on holliday i have to say your statement certainly is false. Some people may have issue's with ff, but i for one certainly didnt have any problems with ff since 4.1, server is as stable as it ever was since migration.
I had more dc's when server was still in canada but thats only to be expected. Bigger distance more things that can go wrong.
Then you are lucky. We had a thread quite some time ago about the problem. Just because it does not hit everyone does not mean that there isnt a problem otherwise since not everyone got a DC either there is also no problem right now.while i havent experienced the current issue's due to being on holliday i have to say your statement certainly is false. In the end since 4.1 quite some people have problems, not necessary DCs or harsh laggs but for example I did notice how macros for crafting can get messed up or skills not getting off. Others have noticed the same.
It was enough that chaos has kinda become a meme.
And Chaos is down again. Here I thought it might actually stay up for an entire play session. RIP.
