Fantasy sanity? Lore sanity? Okay. Let's do that then. That gobbue ate a bunch of wind crystals so it can fly now. The bear ate an ixal carrying a bunch of wind crystals so it can fly now. The T-rex hung around eureka for too long which messed with it's aether, so it can fly now. It can fly now. You can justify literally anything if you think about it for half a second. Hell, that t-rex thing is actually the cannon explanation for why it can fly. It says as much in the mount log. That being said, feel free to make a big list of all the mounts you think shouldn't be able to fly and I'll be more than happy to give you an in lore reason for why it can (although, being honest, most of my explanations will probably just be "wind crystals did it")

Don't try to bring up lore as an excuse for taking away functionality. The lore in this game is flimsy enough that it's not an argument that'll ever work.

I can see that there are people that are so hung up on the idiocy of "OMGITFLIES" that convincing them of otherwise is akin to arguing with a liberal when it comes to political matters: Screeching and strawman arguments. I should have known it would happen in this day and age, but it was worth "attempting" to discuss.

You seem upset. Did you have an actual argument to make, or are you just going to be dismissive? Why not make an actual convincing argument for why some mounts should fly and some shouldn't? I haven't seen you try that yet. All you said was that it would make them more "sane" which doesn't really mean a whole lot when applied to a game with lore as goofy as this. If you feel like I strawmanned your argument, then show me the parts of my argument that you feel exaggerated yours and explain why it's not representative of your position. Mind you, this would require actually having a position beyond "I have decided on a whim that certain mounts should have their functionality replaced"

Throwing out similar logical fallacies when people don't immediately agree with you doesn't exactly paint your own argument in the best light. You came here to debate, accept that not all people aren't going to agree and defend your position. You really aren't endearing others to your viewpoint when your tone is dripping with condescension.

Discuss? Yes. Debate? No. The instant the hyperbole came flying out like Queen's Supersonic Man, I stopped hoping for any kind of discussion on it and realized at that point, that anything further in this thread was just going to be more of the same from either side. So... I decided to have some fun and see if I could antagonize any more "REEing" out of it, before this thread inevitably fades into obscurity and I wasn't disappointed.

Oh, so this is the part where you pretend not to care despite clearly having been bothered by the fact that we didn't all come in, pat you on the head and say "Yes, you're absolutely right! You made a good suggestion!". Okay. We used to call this the puppetmaster defense. Not going to lie, I was hopping you'd put up a bit more of a fight than that.

Man, you came here with an idea that, it's safe to say I think, was going to be at odds with most of the community. If you didn't expect to have to advocate for your position, I don't know what to tell you.

I find all of this would be fixed by not having flying in the next expansion. Flying removes us from the beautiful and well crafted world. Instead of seeing it in detail, we simply fly over the scenery, fly over the danger, etc. I much prefer a game with only ground based movement.

I would disagree with that. Flying is both a convenience and it allows players to get a different perspective on the environment that they'd never get walking on the ground alone. It also allows for more varied and interesting environments if they're made with flying in mind. I mean, something like azyz lla or the sea of clouds wouldn't really work if you were grounded the whole time through. That being said the only thing stopping you from looking at the world in detail is yourself. You don't have to fly. You don't have to ignore the world. You choose to because you want to. You can always walk around everywhere if that's what you want to do.

I would much rather have obtaining them be interesting via stories, than just *click compass, run in direction.* Even if the quests/stories tied to them are mundane as hell, I could at least enjoy getting them instead of popping the compass every 10 seconds to play Marco Polo.
All the aether currents are either close to some quest objective or near the path to a quest objective. If you do all the quests in a zone, you will get close to each and every aether current. No need for any real exploration - just do quests and use the aether compass occasionally - and keep your eyes open.
