Eh, semantics. If you've got time and energy to post on these forums for one reason, you've got time and energy to post on them for another.

This thread also doesn't exist in a bubble.

I don't recall saying that I've been personally attacked, and especially not by Sigma? To the absolute best of my knowledge Sigma and I have never responded to one another until right now.

    Just so we're clear.

I can agree with this. I think there's something to be said about being able to construct something that looks good though, regardless of whether it's entirely handdrawn, digitally created or just well put together using the tools in the game. As someone with, like, zero artistic creativity to speak of.

But even with the time discrepancy there, it's still getting devalued by just logging in and plunking down Gil equivalent to... warping to another Aetheryte in the same area? Ish? I think that costs about 100 Gil, so not too far off.

That's nice of them, but it doesn't make it sound less haphazard. It's like one hand doesn't know what the other is doing.

To be quite honest? I'd rather those be offered as they are, as gil items. Make contest rewards physical items that cannot be reproduced so effortlessly whether it's a t-shirt, mug, figurine, something that someone can actually show to others and be like "Hey, I won this cool contest in XIV and this is what I got!"....not a "Hey, I spent all of this effort for this contest and won a digital scarf that literally took the devs very little time to ship to me for free digitally".

For christ sake, make actual plushies as contest rewards to be shipped to the players that win! I feel like SE is cheaping us out with contest rewards, they've got OST's they could freaken give away.

It's harder to take value away from something given to someone when they're given an actual object worth a monetary value that most other people would have had to pay for with real money if they actually wanted it.

OST's, plushies, blankets, clothing, keyrings, cups, stickers, books, figurines...

I remember when gaming contests actually gave you cool stuff for winning and didn't cheap out on you with digital stuff that takes them less then a few minutes to send out.

They're so minor and unremarkable that virtually no one will ever even realize you have them, unless you bring it up.

That said, I'd be a little pissed if I had won the Scarf of Wondrous Wit that I requested from the latest screenshot contest, only to find out I could have gotten it essentially for free a week later.
I agree. I actually just won the mandragora choker from the Sea Breeze Contest, and I'd be soo mad if they added it to this vendor. That said, and forgive me lack of knowledge here, but aside from the scarf, what else was a contest prize in the past?
I have the slime, goobue, hatchling and bombard earrings from another time the npc was added to the game, and I've participated in most contests over the last few years, and the only thing I recognized was the scarf as a contest prize item.

They're allowing recent contest winners, who picked the scarf as their prize, to change their choice to something else.

Ah well at least they're doing this! And maybe that means they'll add new things to future contests.

You can't see all the 100s of subscribes in your time of gameplay. The whole "I've never seen it so that means it never happened" mentality is not a good one to have. I've personally seen the scarf a few times.

It's not even a good looking scarf. At least, it could be good looking.

Of course I can't see all the subscribers in my time playing this game.

However, I've been playing on Balmung (the most populated server by a large margin) since around 2.1. I'd find it hard to believe that no one on Balmung managed to win any of the contests over the past years.

I don't have an issue with it. Bear in mind, some people are completely excluded from taking part in contests in the first place due to the country that they live in...and there's also a disparity between the amount of contests that are hosted in each region.
